SCOTT family emigrated to AUS in 1842 via 'Manlius'. Robert and Janette SCOTT (b. 1805) in Tyrone both died before landing of the plague onboard ship. Five siblings arrived as orphans. New information shows all children born Cooneen Townland, Fermanagh. Margaret (b.1828), Jane Ann (b.1828), Robert (b.1830), Eliza (b. 1832), Henry (b.1834) but information from the Rector of Colebrooke and Cooneen with Mullaghfad can find no trace in his parish in Fermanagh. All are protestants. Hoping someone can suggest where to try in Tyrone that 'fits' the information I currently have. No death certificates or information about parents and ships manifest is a partial one only- this was a Bounty ship and this was withheld due to large loss of life on board. Hope someone can suggest some possibilities in Tyrone with respect to either children or parents.

  • Barbra,

Cooneen is in the parish of Aghalurcher. It’s large parish and there are several churches within it. There is Aghalurcher itself with records from 1788, Maguiresbridge from 1840, Mullaghfad from 1836 and Lisnaskea with records from 1804. According to the PRONI guide to church records, Cooneen church only has records from 1872, so it’s not surprising the Rector can’t find your family there in the 1830s. I am not sure whether Cooneen had earlier records which have been lost or whether it was only opened in the 1870s. If there are records which have been lost (as many Church of Ireland early records were – in the 1922 fire in Dublin) then there’s not much you can do about it. But if the church only opened in the 1870s, I’d be inclined to check the records for Aghalurcher and Lisnaskea before trying adjacent parishes.

However I have attached a link to a map that shows you all the adjacent parishes.
