Still looking for James Martin, son of Robert, farmer.....born c1806, joined Army, Inniskilling Dragoons and went to Coventry, England (Census 1841).   Daughter, Louisa born 1842, married her mother in Longford, IRL, in 1847.  Retired to live in Foleshill, Coventry with family...have extensive details of his family.   Believed to be Protestant.  Cannot identify him in Arboe, or his family.  Any help appreciated.

    You don’t say what precise denomination James was. If Church of Ireland, then the Arboe records start in 1775 and so you might find his baptism there. If Presbyterian, then their records don’t start till 1848.

    If James’ father was a farmer he would normally be listed in the tithe applotment books. There’s no Robert listed in 1826, suggesting either he was dead or no longer a farmer. However there are 5 Martin farms listed, one headed by Ann (who was probably a widow). You could use them as a basis for further research, but there are few records for that period in Ireland and it won’t be easy.
