Ellen (b abt 1807, Ireland) married Maurice Flynn in 1839 in Galbally and had Mary, Patrick

My branch of the family, Robert Aldworth, married Margaret Downey. They immigrated to Portland, Victoria, Australia on 10 Feb 1856 on the ship Anna Maria.

Robert Aldworth married Margaret Downey and they had children:

  • Dear Rob:

Many thanks for your query to Ireland Reaching Out.  You have a lot of work done on your family research!

The Aldworth family name appears in the 1901 and 1911 Censuses of Ireland mainly in the County Kerry and County Cork areas.

    http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie.

There do not appear to be any Aldworth families listed in the Pallasgreen area, but it is certainly possible that some of their descendants might be there having married into other families.

I will ask another volunteer living in the area about this family name and revert to you.

    Kind regards,

    Jane.

  • Hello Rob...I am not connected to your Aldworth family, but have been doing research of Dwyer's in the Pallasgreen area.  Galbally & Aherlow are in the Cashel & Emly Diocese, Counties of Limerick & Tipperary.  I had a quick look today at the N.L.I.  (National Library of Ireland www.http://registers.nli.ie/) Catholic parish records online for Galbally, Baptisms Dec. 1828-June 1872.  I found a baptism for Ellen Aldworth, bapt. 6 May 1831 to Roger Aldworth & Margaret Downey; Sponsor - Lucia ___?  It is a starting point for you.  Best of luck, Marilyn Dwyer, Canada

  • Dear Jane and Marilyn,

Thanks for your assitance. Perhaps I can use your suggestion, Marilyn, to find some exact dates to replace the "abouts" .

I look forward to hearing back from you, Jane.

    Kind regards

    Rob

  • Hi Robert:

I asked someone with some knowledge of Pallasgreen and they directed me to the Limerick City Archives website.  That is a very good resource if you are not aware of it, and there appeared to be a death notice of a William Aldworth.

Here is the link for you:

    Kind regards,

    Jane.

Rob, sorry.  I can't help with your inquiry.  However, Marilyn, I have referred your note to a cousin.  She and I are both descended from Pallas Magrath/McGrath family and  my Oola Real's had cousins in Ballynaclough, Pallas. However, she is also a Pallas Dwyer.  It is possible you know her already, but I will let her contact you.  Chuck Real

  • GoRobert and Jane, I am the cousin to which Chuck referred. First of all, Robert, I found the following link to Ballynaclough tithe applotments and civil parish, 1832 which lists several of your surnames. I'm not familiar with this particular site so I don't know how good it is. It could be a place to start: http://www.connorsgenealogy.com/LIM/BallynacloghTithes.htm   It has most of our surnames on it. One thing to note, I believe there is a Ballinaclough Cemetery up by Silvermines which is north of Pallasgreen and a Ballynaclough by Pallasgreen. Some of the cemeteries in that area are Old Pallas, Templebredin and Towerhill. You can access at least two of those through historicgraves.com. The town from Towerhill is Cappawhite; Palls for the Old Pallas Cemetery. There is one at Nicker but I'm not sure what it is called. Also several others in the area but I don't know the names of them. When we were looking around this summer we came upon a very small cemetery by the old home locations of the  McGraths and Reals but I'm not sure the name of it. There were some Bearys in it. May have been some Quinlans too. Now for Jane, I am a descendant of John Dwyer, born 1822 in Pallasgreen. I have been researching Dwyers for a number of years without much luck. However, I have met several Dwyers in the area. It's laughable, they say "we aren't related." Anyway, one of those contacts finally gave me the e-mail address of one he thinks I am realated to. He said the Dwyers were from Knockderk, which is one of the big hills there by Pallasgreen. Good luck everyone. Sounds like the ancestors of all four of us were from the same area. -- Jill Hotchkiss

  • Towerhill Cemetery is at Cappamore, not Cappawhite.

  • Sorry for the typos up above! I had a quick look at the grave listing for the Old Pallas Cemetary and there are a few Bearys in there.

  • I just found this conversation and Im aware that its 3 years old. None of the links work and I am also looking for information on my 5x great grandparents Joseph Aldworth and Lucy Howe. There was a comment posted with a link that said my 4x grandfather William Aldworth obit was attached to the link but the link did not work. Is there anyone that can help me out?

    Thank you

  • Hi arikac21:

Thanks for letting me know about that broken link.  Here is an updated one:  http://www.limerickcity.ie/Library/LocalStudies/ObituariesdeathnoticesetcfromTheLimerickChronicle/

The obit is located at the top of page 9.  The document is 29 pages long.

    Good luck with your research.

    All the best,

  • Hello Rob,

Thank you for posting, hopefully, you are still following updates to this thread.  I've been researching my family and believe I may be related through Mary Catherine Howes, daughter of Mary Aldworth and Robert Howes (3rd Great Grandmother).  I believe she married Thomas Patrick Burns in 1852 and immigrated to the US and died in Pennsylvania. This seems to be supported by information on her death certificate as well as some additional records I have found.  I'd be interested in exchanging information if that is agreeable to you.

    Thank you

    Eric
