I'm trying to locate information on my paternal great-grandfather's family. His name was Thomas Hughes. He married Anne Oates on 10 MAR 1891. I have found the 1901 and 1911 census information that lists my grandmother's family still living in Curraghadooey, Garrymore. I connected with a relative of Anne Oates who has done a ton of great research on that side of the family, but I have not found anything on Thoms' side except that his sister Ellen appears to have married one of Anne's brothers, Martin. The 1910 Census lists Thomas' mother Bridgit as one of the residents of the home, but I have not been able to confirm birth or death dates for Thomas or his father's name or mother's maiden name. I've tried searching on irishgenealogy.ie but I can't tell if I'm using the site incorrectly or just not getting results. I've searched on registers.nli.ie and found what appears to be Anne Oates' baptism record on the same day as an Ellen Hughes who I believe is Thomas' sister. Her parents are listed as Patrick Hughes and Bridget MacDonagh. I have had no luck locating Thomas.
Any help or direction you can give would be appreciated. I have not been able to confirm if Ellen and Thomas had any other siblings; although, it looks like there may have been 2 Patricks born to the Patrick Hughes and Bridget MacDonagh.

It appears that Thomas was born in 1862 before civil registration started in 1864 so you won't find any records for him on www.irishgenealogy.ie I found the marriage record in March 1857. I located Thomas' baptismal record in 1862. Note Bridget was shown by her married name rather than her maiden name. As you indicated there were two Patrick's and the 1858 Patrick must have died young. The second was in 1863. Ellen was the other sibling. Thomas died in 1934 and Anne in 1937. Bridget died in 1907.

I’d like to join this conversation. I believe the Bridget you found was my great great grandmother Bridget Sherlock. She was married to THomas Hughes a landholder of Curraghdooey. Bridget was living in the household of my great grandfather John Hughes and my grandmother Honora “Onnie” Hughes in 1901. I see a Mary Hughes present at death of Bridget - she was present at death of Thomas Hughes as well. My “dead end” is identifying Mary Hughes. I have her in New York City living with her niece, Sarah (Casey) Bishop - daughter of Sarah (Hughes) Casey. I have her death notice (1943) as well showing her to be a daughter of Thomas and Bridget Sherlock - however I can find no record of her birth to these parents in Ireland. I wonder if she was born to YOUR Thomas and Bridget. THe Oates connection you mention, Pete, is interesting as Sarah Casey’s sister Anne married a William Oates in New York. There are many Hughes in Curraghadooey so it can get confusing. I visited several times. Most recently June 2024. The weather was fabulous so I was able to walk about on the family home plot. A cousin lives in the place by great Uncle Tom lived, a grandson of Thomas hughes and Bridget Sherlock. His brother and sister, my grandmother) emigrated to US. Only last trip I spent time researching what happened to my great uncle Michael. I have a letter he wrote my grandmother when the civil war ended. I haven’t found a pension file for him (I found 2 MichAel Hughesbut neither matched the activities in his letter..hunger strike and imprisoned). He was on the anti-treaty side and my grandmother was pretty resigned to his having been killed after the war. Any help in finding out where he ended up would be appreciated
