Hello all! I am looking for relatives to Abner Casey (1702-1786). Father could have been John Nicholas Casey and Sarah Brooks (possibly originally from Tyrone), brother Randolph (born in Baltimore, MD US 1715).

Would love to hear from anyone with information on this family and relatives still there.

Thanks,

Mary

  • Dear Mary:

Many thanks for your query to Ireland Reaching Out and welcome.

Would you be able to give more information about Abner Casey other than a year of birth and death?  Where did you get this information?  Any other information would be very helpful.

You are probably aware that the parish registers here do not go back as far as the dates that you are looking at, so any and all information that you have can be a great help to try to put the pieces of the puzzle together.

    Kind regards,

    Jane.

  • Jane,

Thank you for reaching out. I have very limited information and am going by generations of stories. It is really had to get the accurate info as one side of the family is saying we come from Tyrone. I grew up hearing stories from my grandfather about Limerick, Kilmallock and Adare. I do not know how much was true but they seemed very descriptive at the time.

Abners father was John Nicholas Casey and mother was Sarah Brooks. She is noted to be from Tyrone.

Like you said, the dates go back farther than the records are kept so I do not know how much help this information will be, but thank you for any assistance!

    Best regards,

  • Hello everyone, I am from South Dakota in the US. I am still trying to solidify my Casey connection so here goes. I believe I have a John Casey (1770-1860) who could have been in Killarney or County Limerick. Supposedly he married Mary Keefe; their daughter was Joanna Casey who married Thomas McGrath in County Limerick. I know this is a long-shot. I'm having trouble finding information on them. Thank you. By the way, do any of you have DNA tests? These connections are a long ways back but even a small DNA match could indicate the possibility of a common ancestor. -- Jill

  • I did a DNA test and am related to the Abner bunch that came to SC but our common ancestor is prior to 1700.  I was also looking in the Tyrone area until I did my Y DNA and discovered I am from the Dalscassian sept of Casey's.  So I started looking at the history and where they were chiefs.  My earliest known ancestor is a John Casey who was born around 1720 and he was a sailmaker.  So, I started looking at southern ports in Ireland.  In my research I have always came across two seperate Captain John Uptons.  While looking at a Limerick voting role, I found another.  I feel like it's not a coincidence.
