I hope I'm searching in the right area. My Gt Grandparents James Campbell from Glasgow and Ann Lappan from Bessbrook were married in the RC chapel of Carrickcruppen in the district of Mullaglass in 1876. I would love to be able to take this Lappin family further back but I can't find them. Does anyone have links with the Lappin family?
Kind regards
Lois

Hi Lois,
I don't have links with Lappan (but am a volunteer on the site)
Here is the Civil marraige record which shows fathers' names from www.rootsireland.ie/)

The Tithe Applotments (free online) have Bryan and Thomas Lappan in Creenkill Creggan 1827 (but no Lappins)
The earliest Irish Census which has Armagh records is 1851 but there are no Lappans / ins
Griffiths Valuation (free) has 28 Lappans in Armagh 1864 but no mention of Bessbrokk, Carrick or Mullaglass.
I couldn't find a marrige record on rootsireland for either parents above but the R C registers are free online now: registers.nli.ie; if you search for Bessbrook in the parish search you'll get which records are available to search.
Do you know any of Ann's siblings? I searched for siblings of both sets of parents and got Mary 1847 Terrence 1849 Jane Patrick 1850 Catherine 1853 John 1856 Peter 1857 for mother Loughlin.
Finnigan: Saragh 1852 Ann 1855 Eleanor 1856 William 1859 James 1865 Sara 1865 Mary 1867 Martha 1870 Henry 1872 Samuel 1874

Hi Col. Thank you so so much for that information. I have the marriage certificate so knew Ann's father was James. I'd also found the Ann with Sarah Loughlin as mother who matches my Ann's age with her death record but the link was only tentative. The information of the siblings really helps me. I don't think our family had any contact with the Lappin side so I don't know of any siblings but all those first names (Loughlin) follow down the family. The names in the Finnigan (mother) family don't bear any resemblence to our family names. If these are the only two Anns with a father, James, then I think I can safely add Sarah Loughlin and try and track back from there.
If any more Lappan/in links pop up please keep me in mind.
Thank you again, you're doing a great job.

Hi Col
I was just looking back through old messages and found this. Thought I'd let you know that I identified the Lappin/Finnigan family as mine and have managed to fill out families for 6 of Ann Lappin's siblings. I've spoken to 6 DNA matches who descend from James and Sarah and they have given me information and stories about their part of the family. I'm also in touch with two DNA matches, one in the US and the other in Australia, both descendants for James Lappin's siblings. We email regularly and together we are fleshing out the family one generation further back. I've identifed the Townlands our Lappins lived in and hope to get over there as soon as I'm able. I doubt we will get much information earlier than 1800 but the fact we have managed to bring this family to life is amazing! I thank you for your initial help.
Kind regards
Lois
