Hello, I'm desperate to find my Grand father, his name is Vincent Burke, he will be in his 80's now. He was from County cork and worked in Blackburn/ Preston Lancashire at a brewery for a time in 1954, it was there he met my Grand mother Minnie Smalley, he also knew her brother Vivian Smalley and sister Jenny Smalley. He said that his family had a farm in Cork and he may have had a brother named James/Jim. They dated for a while and then I believe he may have returned to ireland after his work was finished, he may not be aware that he has a son. I have a photo of Vincent that my Grandmother always kept despite marrying and going on to have more children, she always spoke highly of Vincent. I know there's not much to go on but if anyone could help I would be very great full and my father would be so pleased to find his father or any relitives. Thank you.

  • Cheryl if you are on Facebook there are two groups where you can ask for help. North Cork Genealogy and Cork genealogy. As the person you are looking for was born less then 100 years ago we can not provide any records for him and the last census of Ireland that is public is from 1911 long before Vincent was born

  • As someone who recently found my birth family and a half sister, your situation called to me.

We were very successful in finding living relatives in Cork using the following method:

In 2012 we posted a classified in the Southern Star seeking descendants of our gggrandparents. Within 48 hours we had an email from a cousin who was actually still farming on the family farm (but name was unknown to us as he was the grandson of a daughter whose spouse we did not know about). We routinely correspond with these cousins and visited them this year again.

Then in July of this year, when we were in Middleton, it was suggested that we post in the local paper.  Within a week, we were contacted by someone who is likley distantly related with a very interesting story and connection.

    Good luck.
