I think that the photo that you are referring to is actually in Tuamgraney which is in East Clare.  It is located next to St. Cronan's Church, which is a Church of Ireland building in the village, and was at one time the home of East Clare Heritage Centre.

Jane-You are correct about the O'Grady tower house. It was on one of our stops before touring the Holy Island with Mr Madden. It was a bit surreal seeing the family crest carved into the wall at St Caiman's.  I hope to discover more family history on my next trip in October.

You will find a lot of information in Gerard Madden's book " History of  The O'Gradys of Clare and Limerick"  2007. 

I am also from a line of the O'Grady's.  I did a "Family Funder"  DNA test with Family Tree and have  made contact with

others fron my line.I hope this is of help to you.

William, I wonder if you are looking for the Bruff, County Limerick,  "The O'Grady of Kilballyowen" family ? 

 BUT that is a different Kilballyowen, Bruff, Co.Limerick : Obituaries in the ‘Limerick Leader’:  Anne Lefroy Stein  of Raglan Road, Dublin on 6 Jan 1898, granddaughter of late The O'Grady of Kilballyowen.   Dowager Madame O’Grady, Kilballyowen  on 21/03/1895.       

[ This is a separate family again:  1866 3rd December (ClareJournal).   Loss of a Kilrush smack on the Kerry coast: @ Dingle    Thursday:   “The smack ‘Lord Berehaven’ of Kilrush, Denis O’Keeffe, master, foundered yesterday evening about 15 miles off the land, in Brandon Bay.   Her crew consisting of three hands landed in their small boat.  The little vessel was owned by a Mrs. O’Grady of Kilrush.”   ]  

The 1480s McMahon-O'Brien-Burton towerhouse at Carrigaholt was finally owned by a Major William O'Grady through his wife's inheritance after the last eligible male Burton died in 1919.   The locals held parties there & vandalised / stripped the place, resulting in a newspaper report where Major Grady from Dublin was given 2,000 pounds compensation by the Free State, having asked for 15,000.    The Irish OPW {Office of Public Works} owns the closed old shell now?     

Maurice Grady was a professional matchmaker, or marriage broker, in the Doonaha district around 1853-4.     

And a widow Bridget Grady(born c.1836-7) lived with her brother-in-law, retired-grocer & widower Thomas Ginnane(b.c.December1835) in the April 1911 Census of Carrigaholt.    

Those are the only Gradys which I know of from near historic Kilballyowen Civil & Catholic Parish in the tip of southwest Clare.  

If anyone would like a draft transcription of the 1852-1881 Kilballyowen & Carrigaholt / Moyarta Parishes' Catholic Baptisms & Marriages, please email MURRAY@GINNANE.CO.NZ    They have morphed into a 4,000 page amateur parish history.
