Old village of Corballis

There are seven Corballis townlands in Co. Meath but it appears that the one in Ballygarth civil parish is the correct Corballis. 

The RC parish would be Stamullen  http://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0961

I have looked at Corballis too and there are two in the Barony of Duleek. The one Roger selected is the more likely and it is worth Googling Balllygarth Castle for more information on it, it was the home of the Pepper family. Ballygarth is to the east of Julianstown as you go towards Laytown. 

There is a Protestant church on this road and a newish RC church on the south side of Julianstown, do not get carried away here as Julianstown is a small villlage now with only a pub / restaurent in it. There are no shops but there is a nearby hotel.

If you look at Griffiths Valuation link attached and select Griffiths Places rather than the default Griffiths Names and enter Corballis you will get a number of hits, select the Ballygarth one and you can click on the icon for people not too many in Ballygarth, you can also click on the maps icon and with some patience and using the bar on the top right side of the separate screen that opens you can draw the bar to the left and get the modern map.

I live a few miles from Julianstown and had thought there was a volunteer there but that was a few years ago so if you wish to ask about local issues such as transport and hotels let me know, buses pass through the village and there is a train station in Laytown about 2 miles away but there is no local transport, I think the community there is quiet active but do not know anyone there.

I located another possibility that might be worth checking out - described in Lewis' Topographical Dictionary of 1837 as the village of Corballis, located 5 miles west of Drogheda, in Duleek civil parish - the description seem to place this village in the townland of the same name located at these unlabelled collection of buildings (OSI map c1840). 

The '5 miles west of Drogheda' directions are a close fit to the above location - based on modern google maps the shortest route from the centre of Drogheda works out about 9.4 km or just under 6 miles, and the bearing is a little south of due west.

This one shows the townland of Corballis near Duleek.

Based on the details in the Julianstown Heritage Trails Brochure I believe the location described in this would be the other village of Corballis located in Ballygarth civil parish mentioned by Roger & Pat. The brochure described the village as beling near a coastguard station, which shows up on the later c1890s OSI maps. The name Corballis seems to apply to the townland, village and possibly also a large house estate.  See the listing for the civil parish of Ballygarth in Lewis' 1837.

Thank you to everybody for your kind help and assistance. I have followed up all the links that you have suggested, and have a good idea of the location from the maps. It seems that I have been quite close to Corballis without knowing it, as I am familiar with the route from Drogheda as far as Laytown station, and can see it is not much further from here. I am not particularly looking for ancestors, as I am stumped by a missing marriage certificate from 1876 for my ancestor Peter Smyth, and without it cannot go back to a birth with any certainty. However, I believe that he was born in Corballis, and am happy to get a sense of where that might have been. Hopefully, I will get a chance to visit later this month.

I would be grateful for any local recommendations of accommodation, restaurants, or places to visit.

Great location for Drogheda/Julianstown.

Ate at The Lime Kiln pub/restaurant, excellent food and very friendly.

Trips out were to : Boyne Centre, Four Knocks [a small neolithic tomb , very atmospheric and we were the only people there]. E mail me if you need some info on it as a little hard to find and you have to pick up the key first! Rather different to Newgrange with thousands of tourists. It was actually one of the highlights, a special place.

The marriage you have found is the correct one, and comes from the church record. It is the civil record that cannot be found, which would have the names of the parents. The GRO said  they cannot find the record, it might be at the end of the year, or the names might have spelling errors. Due to the date of the marriage it should be somewhere, but if they cannot find it, I am not sure what can be done.
