l am trying to find details of my Grandfather Denis Collins who I believe had a public house in Celbridge in the 1920's, possibly  later. Sorry to be so vague but I never met him and am only relying on dimly remembered family stories.

    Hello again!

I looked in the 1911 census and did not find a Denis Collins anywhere in Co. Kildare.

Why don't you contact the Celbridge library branch and see if they have access to directories for the 1920s for the town.

  • Goodness Roger, you seem to be the mainstay of this website! Denis was in Dublin for the 1911 census, as his then wife, my grandmother had just died in childbirth at the Rotunda hospital giving birth to my mother.  I know he subsequently married again and had a large family. I have this evening found some obituaries from Celbridge linking the family to the town. Thank you for your suggestion. I shall certainly use it in this quest.

Apropos my other Grandfather Richard Whyte, today I received a photo of him at Leighlinbridge school in 1909. Needless to say I was delighted as it was the first time I have seen him. It is so good that there are folk such as yourself who are helping us "seekers". Thank you so much.

Thanks! We do have an XO Chronicles site which allows you to post a story about your ancestors.
