Looking for my 2nd great grandmother, Delia Maloney/Malone. According to American census records, she was born in Ireland around 1868. Her parents were John Maloney/Malone and Bridget Devitt. Once she moved to Providence, Rhode Island, USA, she married Martin Nagle. Martin is from Ennistymon, but Delia's records could not be found there. I don't know if Delia knew Martin before immigrating or if they met after.
Oral tradition in my family says we came from Cork, but so far, we haven't been able to prove that connection (since my Nagle side has roots in Clare). Since I have no information about Delia's origins, I am starting in Cork as a best shot.
American census records indicate Delia immigrated in 1891.
Not sure if this information (below) is helpful or relevant, but since it involved Maloneys and Devitts under the same roof in Providence, RI, I added it here:
1910 Rhode Island Census – Patrick Maloney (26) lives in the house of John Devitt (48) with Mary W. Devitt as a boarder, and Thomas Devitt, Patrick Devitt (also boarders). Bridget Devitt is Delia’s mother, so it’s possible that John Devitt could be an uncle or cousin to Patrick Maloney. Not sure if Patrick is a brother to Delia. He is much younger than she is (Delia is approx. 42 in 1910). Perhaps John Devitt is a cousin to Delia on her Mother’s side? In 1925, Patrick Maloney is 42 and lives with Martin and Delia, so it is reasonable that Patrick could be a relative of Delia’s – especially since her mom was a Devitt.
Thank you very much for your help!

Welcome back to Ireland Reaching Out!
It is likely that Delia was baptized and civilly registered as Bridget which complicates the search. Based on the surnames, I would be inclined to lean towards Co. Clare as her home county. I went thru civil birth records in Co. Clare from 1864-1869 and was not able to find her record. I only searched for Maloney/Moloney and not Malone.
I also searched in Co. Cork on two data bases: www.irishgenealogy.ie and Roots Ireland and did not find a record where the mother's surname was Devitt.
Any other clues? Any siblings with a fairly rare given name? Have you considered autosomal DNA testing?
