Hello, I was hoping someone had information on my gggrandparents John Healy and Margaret Hinchin. Both born around 1832 in Cork. Their children were born in Cullen Cork and lived in Millstreet for awhile.
Margaret's father was Daniel Hinchin b. about 1804 her mother was Margaret Ahern b. about 1804. Margaret had sisters born in Keale, Johanna, Abina. John Healy had sisters, Ellen and Hannah. All the siblings born in the 1830's.
Margaret Hinchin died in Keale, Cork in 1901.
Thanks

these links may be useful, cannot confirm if they are the same person or not though:
Margaret had a son born on March 4th 1867. no name given, and no father listed in the civil registration
https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/birth_retur…Birth of JOHN HINCHION in 1865
https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/details-civil/37a4…i couldn't find any record of margaret passing in or near 1901 in the civil records. it needs a better look though

Captainkate:
I was not able to find baptismal records for Margaret and John. Possibly they were born and baptized right before records start in February 1832 http://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0047
Did not locate a marriage record on www.irishgenealogy.ie but did find baptismal records for two children-- Mary and John. See below.

Thank you both so much for the great information! It does fill in about 2 blanks and gives me an interesting hint. I had not heard the name flintfield before. Must be a street name.? Maybe a clue to where my ggrandparents actually lived. :)
I am so excited to have something new to go on!

I located the civil birth record for John and the family lived in Gortageen townland in Cullen civil parish. You will have to sign-in to see the record.

Gortageen is the anglicised spelling of Gort an Ghaín, which literally means "the Flint Field"
It is a townland, not a street, and is known locally here as Flintfield. few would ever know it or refer to it as Gortageen though
here is a map of flintfield with a little more information:
https://www.townlands.ie/cork/duhallow/cullen/keale/gortageen/sattelite view on google maps:
https://goo.gl/maps/AHnB9BjmddwThere are still Healys living in Flintfield (or very closeby at the very least)
hope that's a help

Thank you! I understand now what Flintfield is. Was Flintfield House a hospital? I see it now a little bit in Millstreet stories from the distant past. A few people were born there, but the writings have not said that it's a hospital, just talks about who has owned Flintfield House.
I'll be looking at the map and at the links today. :) It would be wonderful to find living Healy's related to us near Flintfield. I would look forward to a good old Irish family reunion someday.
I appreciate so much your taking the time to help. Mike C and Roger. Have a blessed week.

hi margaret,
i posted your request on the millstreet.ie community website, on the off chance that someone related might see it.
this morning we got a reply from a Margaret Hinchon:
"I am sure we are from the same family, I am also Margaret Hinchin. I do have some records which I will look at"
you can see the message and reply to her on millstreet.ie here:

hope that's okay

Any interest is becoming an Ireland Reaching Out parish liaison for Dromtariff? Thanks!

hi roger,
first things first, the name is Dromtarriffe (with an 'e' at the end), though i have seen it mentioned without the 'e' in the distant past.
but, what would it entail?
i suspect probably covers much of the same as what we do on millstreet.ie for the greater millstreet area. half of dromtarriffe i would know, but the side closer to kanturk, i hardly would. but i suppose i have a lot of contacts, so it wouldn't be much of an issue.
