Hi... Searching the family of my paternal ggm Bridget O'Donnell (b. about 1850), of Crumpaun nUiamini, may be also known as a place listed as "Umeeney"... Her father was Martin O'Donnell (on her marraige record) and she married John Cooney of Inishbara in 1878. The only Martin O'Donnell on the Tithe Appl is a Martin O'Donnell from Keeraunbeg. Not sure if this is my gggf, as I can't find Bridget's birth record. There is a Martin O'Donnell who is widowed and marries Anne Mullin in 1864, so wondering if this is the same Martin with his second family. I can't rely on just DNA matches, as all my paternals come from this area: Flahertys, Mannion, Cooneys, and O'Donnells, and it seems I match all the surnames from Galway and it's hard to separate their trees!  Any suggestions would be a great help.  Thanks, Diane Flaherty Martin

    We do not have any parish liaisons in that area of Galway.

    A few comments.The 1855 Griffiths Valuation head of household listing for Killanin civil parish also shows a Martin O'Donnell in Keeraunbeg. The RC parish should be Carraroe/Lettermullin

    I looked at the Martin O'Donnell/Anne Mullen baptismal records and they were in Clifden RC church so likely a different Martin O'Donnell.

  • Diane, where did you find the DNA matches for Flaherty ? I'd like to check them out. I've done the DNA with FT/DNA, 23 & Me and Living DNA.  In 1864, my Bridget Flaherty married John Manning in Louisville, KY.  John was a Civil War soldier. He died from pneumonia (I think) in 1866. Their daughter, Margaret Manning was born Decmber 1866 in Cincinnati, Ohio.  Then Bridget Flaherty Manning married Thomas Patrick Gibons in 1870.

  • Hi suem600 - You can find your DNA matches to Flahertys on FTDNA, just use their search field, and also look for their "Flaherty" surname groups .  It will show you any Flahertys that you are a direct DNA match to.   I belong to FTDNA, Ancestry,  23andMe and also Gedmatch, with my family trees on Ancestry, so I can search for my Flaherty DNA matches on FTDNA, and I have access to Ancestry's data base with a paid subscription.    I tried checking Ancestry for the info you posted above, but nothing lined up, i.e., correct surnames together, correct dates, etc.  Note that there are many areas that Flahertys immigrated from, especially in Galway.  You may not be able to find a lot of documents going further back from 1864, but start with what you know and work backwards.
