My ancestors were said to be from Clonakilty, John Hurley born abt 1807 and son Dennis Hurley born 10 Nov 1846. Went to USA 1848, possibly via Liverpool. John's wife was Ellen Crowley. Any info would be appriciated.
Thanks, Joe Hurley

Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!
I found an 1838 marriage record in Barryroe RC parish which is next to Clonakilty and the same parish where you located the 1846 baptismal record for Dennis. There is also a baptismal record for a Timothy Hurley on either May 19th 1844 or June 19th 1844 (two records are listed).
I would look in Clonakilty records on www.irishgenealogy.ie for John Hurley but records do not start until 1809. Also, look in Lislee/Ballyroe for Ellen Crowley. (I see at least three records).

Found two boys named John Hurley baptized in Clonakilty, one on 22 December 1811 and one on 28 June 1817 - both were sons of Michael Hurley and Mary Slattery. So, the first "John" must have died at a very young age. Michael and Mary Hurley also had a son named Denis in 1810, who John might have named his son after. Suggest you visit the website www.irishgenealogy.ie for Clonakilty's church records.

Found a marriage in Clonakilty for a John Hurley and a Margaret Crowley on 16 February 1836. There were quite a few Crowley family members in Clonakilty in the early 19th century.
