John Howley born in Castleconor South 1791

Roots Ireland has the records for Castleconor RC church starting in 1835. In fact, I located forty Howley baptismal records from 1835-1845. Only five had a father John but the names of the children and years of birth are nowhere close to what you have in your message and in fact three of them were after 1841. Not sure why your ancestors don't show up specifically James and Michael unless they were actually baptized before April 7th, 1835 when records begin.  I did see the marriage record for Margaret in 1845 which you already have.

The 1833 Tithe listings for the parish show a number of John Howley records in Castleconor but I think many of the records are duplicates. There was a John Howley in Emlymoran townland and another in Bunnanilra. Likely your John was one of the two.

I have done quite a bit of research on my Howleys who were from Carraun in Castleconnor Parish in County Sligo.  I knew from my research that my 2nd great grandfather was Patrick Howley married to Mary and I knew they lived in Carraun.  Using the Tithing books and Griffiths Valuation, I was able to identify the actual fields they worked and where they lived.  I visited there two years ago and spoke with some Howleys.  One of them, Frank Howley, was from the Howley line you describe which included Martin Howley who lived in Bunnanrila right next to Carraun.  You can be sure all these Howleys were related in some way.  My Howleys with the exception of one brother settled in central western New York State.  My tree is Witt-Bastian-Howley-Downs and can be accessed on Ancestry.com if you are a member.  My mother was Margaret Howley. I've been working on trying to trace my 2nd great-grandmother, Winifred Howley, back to a town in Sligo. The only confirmed record I have pointing her there (along with her husband, James Murphy) is an 1860s NYC birth certificate of one of their children indicating both parents were born there. I am guessing they were also married there in the 1850s, but have not been able to locate any record.

To the best of my knowledge, Winifred's father was Anthony Howley (born in the early 1800s) and her mother was Mary (possibly Haley). Winifred had 2 or 3 sisters who also came to the U.S:

Bridget, who married John L. McIntyre (probably in Ireland) and settled in the Bronx, NYC.

Mary, who may not have ever married, who settled in Manhattan near Winifred and her family.

Margaret, who married  Thomas Flynn (also proably in Ireland) and settled in Providence, Rhode Island.

I also suspect Anthony may have had a brother named Henry, as I see one 'Harry Howly' listed as 60 years old living with Winifred and her husband and first child in NYC in 1860. This earliest found record for Winifred indicates she was 22 years old in 1860 making her birth year about 1838. I suspect her other sisters were also born in the 1830s.

I've been researching this for years with a brick wall I can't seem to get past (not to mention the trouble the Murphy side is giving me!). If anything jumps out to any of you, or if you have any thoughts on how I might get further with my research, I would love to hear from you.

I think I have your Howleys pretty well figured out.  Unfortunately, I mixed up your info with Kathy's and sent her the information I should have sent you.  I located your Aunt Margret's marriage registry and from that was able to pinpoint her location.  Then using the Tithe Applotment books, I was able to find your 4th great grandfather John,  It turns out they were right next to my Howleys who were in Carraun in Castleconnor Parish.  My email is wwitt1@rochester,rr,com    I have a bunch of stuff to send along to you if you are interested.
