I believe that my ancestor died at Renaghmore in the District of Kilcooley, Urlingford in 1879. Age 82, Farmer. His name was Adam Uzelle and the spelling of this surname has many variations. Adam was born about 1797 and I am trying to prove his ancestors arived in Ireland with the Palatines, surmising that they went firstly to Rathkeale before moving on to Kilcooley over the generations. Can anyone throw any light on the Uzell surname, or tell me if this name still exists in Urlingford?

Dear LynneandJohn:
Thank you for your post to the Ireland Reaching Out message board and welcome to the website!
Uzell is a surname that is associated with parts of Limerick as you stated due to the Palatine families that came into Ireland.
I do not see any reference to an Adam Uzell aged 82 death in Urlingford in 1879. However, I do see a reference to a death for a Mary Uzell aged 96 in Urlingford in 1873.
The link for that page is HERE
In addition, you have commented about the surname still being in Urlingford.
It does not apear to be from what I have been able to find. However, there may be Uzell descendants still living in Urlingford.
I will copy your post to some of our Kilkenny volunteers to see if they can add anything to this. In the meantime, you might consider creating a profile for Adam Uzell for the XO Chronicles (feature is located at the top of the page). You can create a profile for him and add as much or as little information as you have. Many of our members check in with these profiles weekly and we have had a number of successful outcomes with them making new connections.
If you have ay difficulties, please let me know. You can email me at: jhalloranryan@irelandxo.com.
All the best,
Jane.

Hi Leanneand John. Found a Peter Usell on headstone ins in The Pallotine Graveyard in Kilcooley north Tipperary. Ins. Says Peter Usell 1867 1947.
Erected by family of John A Switzer.
From Pallotine Archives.
You should be able to get death cert for Peter, also it's possible his death notice was on daily National newspapers.
Let me know if you have any questions.

Many thanks for this Christina. I had come across this headstone but it never occurred to me to send for his death certificate or to look in newspapers. I will post here if I find anything.

Hello Leanne and John I have copy of burial records for Kilcooley Church, in Co Tipperary, and Adam Uzell (Renaghmore) burial is listed as you stated, 12/04/1879 also Jacob Uzell burial 08/02/1887. 3 more burials in 1931, 1947, 1943. but there is no one by that surname living in the parish at present. Adam's daughter who was a widow Elizabeth O'Brien married Adam Cooke in 1877.
Unfortunately we dont have any earlier parish records but we do believe it to be a Palatine name as you have stated
