Roots Ireland had baptismal records for John Anne Mary and Bridget. They did not show the record for James and they had a second Anne baptismal reocrd in 1832 which indicates that the 1827 Anne died young. (mother is shown as Peggy Whelan) See below. The 1825 Tithe records for the parish of Aghowle showed a Thomas Kenny in Coolkenna. I assume he was a relative of David.

Hi Mark,

While the Clonmore church records will be very useful I feel that records contained in the Fitzwilliam Estate Papers housed in the National Library of Ireland will be invaluable to you. For exam;ple the estate conducted what could be called a census for the entire propeerty in the years 1827, 1839, 1848, 1850, 1860 and 1868. In these you will find the name of the husband, the wises age, the number af male children, the number of female children etc.

Crab Lane is the name given is the name given to a short stretch of road in the parish of Aghowle. A Kenny famly ivef here and operated a rural store, shop and public house. This business operated under the name of Kenny until 1935 when it passed to a Byrne family who were relatives. Another of the same Kenny family had a public house in Shillelagh which is still owned ad run by the Kenny family.

This Kenny family is the only that I know of which bears that name and residing on the the Crab Lane. I have some very old photos of the Kenny property both in Crab Lane and the village of Shillelagh which I would be prepared to share.If you wish to get in touch my email contact is kevinlee29@gmail.com

Hi Roger and Kevin thank you both for anwering my query.  Roger I had checked out the record for the later Anne (1831) on the registers at the NLI site but wasn't fully convinced it recorded the father's name as David, it is illegible to me! Regarding James I have a transcription from the Roots website that gives his baptism 25 Oct 1834 father David Kenny and mother Mary Whelan. Address Crablane, Parish Clonmore but on Roots you normally have a record for Clonmore transcribed twice one with Wicklow and one with Carlow but for James it is just recorded under Carlow. I have since tried to find it on the registers at NLI but couldn't so it may turn out to be an incorrect transcription. 

I have also come across Thomas Kenny living and owning the Crablane pub/store, I think I read it on the Face Book page 'A History of the Coolkenno area' I'm also thinking David must be a close relative of Thomas Kenny.

Thanks Kevin for the offer of sharing the old photo's I'd love to see them, I'll send you an email and thanks for mentioning the Fitzwilliam estate records also as I knew of them but I wasn't aware that they would be that comprehensive. I presume the only way to view them would be by visiting NLI in person? Well I'm well overdue a visit to Ireland it's been a few years but I'm not too far just over in North Wales.

David's Kenny's daughter Bridget is my 2x Great Grandmother she came to Liverpool with her brother John before 1851 as they are recorded at the 1851 census. Bridget married my 2x Great Grandfather James Hart in 1862 in Liverpool, he was from Creggan, Armagh and there is a similar pattern on my mother's side also so I'm of Liverpool Irish stock and definately product of the famine years!

We may be cousins. Your post leads me to believe we are looking for the same family although perhaps a different branch. My Kenny's also came from Crablane only I'm looking for Matthew & Mary (nee Unk). I only have one child for them and that is a son named Martin. I'm told there was some sort of controversy that caused family members to not speak of Matthew. It had also been said that he MAY have been protestant though I have found nothing to indicate this since all the records I've found regarding Martin lists him as R.C. I don't have a baptism record for Martin, only his children.
