Hi All,
I'm trying to trace my great great grandfather Patrick Mcauley, born around 1814 in Enniskillen, Fermangh, Northern Ireland. and my great great grandmother Elizabeth Hart Mcauley born around 1818 also in Enniskillen, Fermangh, Northern Ireland Family lore has it that in 1846 or 1847 due to Patrick being convicted of being a vagriant they ended up in Glasgow, Scotland where they boarded the ship "The Miracle" that departed in 1847 for Nova Scotia Canada. Patrick, Elizabeth along with infant daughter Mary boarded the ship. Mary died enroute and the ship sank off the Magdellan Islands. The survivors were taken ashore and placed on schooners then taken to Pictou Nova Scotia Canada which arrived in June of 1847. Patrick and Elizabeth were given land that they worked until they died in 1889 and 1898. They had a son Henry Mcauley who was my great grandfather who had a daughter Queenie Mae Mcauley Hopkins who was my grandmother. According to my mom noone really spoke of Patrick or who exactly where he was from.
Any help or guidance anyone can give me would be greatly appreciated. I am trying to get some of this settled for my mom who is now 86yrs old and very badly wants to have some closure as she has been working on this for years as have I with no usable information.

It is a bit of a long shot but you could try the Mitchell Library in Glasgow. They have the Glasgow Poor Law records. If Patrick was a vagrant he may well have sought help from the Poorhouse. Those records can contain details of place of birth and parents.
