My great grandparents Patrick Walsh and Catherine Morrissey were married in the Ardfinnan Parish in 1834. Their son Patrick was my grandfather and came to New Zealand in 1869 or thereabouts. We know nothing about Patrick and Catherine's parents or siblings and would really appreciate any little bit of information that anyone could give me,
Many thanks

Alice:
Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!
We do not have a parish liaison for Ardfinnan parish but I will contact a parish liaison for a nearby parish to alert him to your message.

Hi Tom
The baptism for Margaret was 3.4.1844 another is Richard baptised 10.2.1834.
Regarding the land records I did get a copy of them hoping to find ancestors further back but they only dated from Patrick down. They did mention house and land and a further acres totalling 10 in all. Grandfather Patrick came to New Zealabd during the goldrush days to Charleston on the West Coast and married Bridget Hennigan from Listowel County Kerry and raised 13 children here , how the Walshes have multiplied. A sponsor at his wedding was Andrew Condon and he was also sponsor for the baptism of his first child. They appear to have been good friends and there has been talk they were relations but nothing definite, it is Possible they came out together. I do appreciate all your help.

Hi Tom
Thank you so much for the large amount of information you have given me In such a short time , it is greatly appreciated. I guess if the records only started for Ardfinan parish in 1809 any hope of finding who Patrick's parents were through baptism is impossible. Catherine is a better option which can be looked at. It amazes me that we have so many people with the same names. There is I believe a Philip Walsh who married a Mary Morrissey but do not know if there is a connection.
Thanks again.

That is some good information, I would assume that Catherine maybe daughter of Thomas having a son called that name. No son called John for Patrick so he must have not followed Irish tradition of naming first son after fathers father or John could be an older brother or uncle!
Most interesting .
