Hi

Looking for any information regarding Anne E Cullen who married Charles Brown June 1867 in the church of Ballysax after Banns. It states on their marriage cert that her father was Joseph Cullen and he was a drover. According to marriage cert both Charles and Anne were residing at the Curragh, with Charles I can understand this as he was in 52nd lightfoot regiment but not sure why Anne Cullen would have been living there. Any information would be appreciated.

Kind regards

Joanne

  • Hi Joanne,

There's a marriage record on www.rootsireland.ie/ from 1857 which is quite similar except for wife's surname:

    Parish / District:BALLYSAX
    County:Co. Kildare
Husband Charles Brown Address Curragh Camp Denomination:Church Of Ireland Occupation:FELT WORKER
Wife Anne Edwards Address Ballysax Church Of Ireland
    Age:

This is the only baptism record from Kildare with father Joseph:

    Name:Anne CullenDate of Birth:
    Date of Baptism:23-Apr-1838Address:
    Parish/District:NARRAGHMOREGender:FemaleCountyCo. Kildare
    Denomination:Roman Catholic
    Father:Joseph CullenMother:Rosanna ByrneOccupation:

Does the marriage cert have her age?

  • Hi Col

Thank you so much for replying on the marriage cert it states Full In age for both, I know it's definitely the right marriage cert as I have all Charles Browns Military records which state the exact date of marriage. The Baptism that you found for Ann Cullen looks promising Charles was born 1833 so for Anne to be baptised 1838 looks good. Does it by any chance give her fathers occupation?

    Many thanks

    Joanne

  • I'm afraid I sent the record as was on rootsireland Jo so no occupation I'm afraid.

The Irish Censuses are free online. The earliest Kildare records are 1851 but has no Cullens.

I couldn't find a death record for Joseph on roots either.
