Hi there
just wondering if anyone can share knowledge on my Leahy/O Donohoe roots. I have managed to get back back as far as a John Leahy who owned a shop and pub in Broad Street in Charleville in 1870s. He married a Catherine (Kate) O Donohoe (or Donohue) from Hospital whose father was Thomas and also a shop keeper.
Kate and John had the following children:
Thomas (born 1875), David (1877), Ellen (1879), Maurice (1881), Frances (1883) and Henry
Godparents listed for the above children include a number of Walsh surnames (Edward, Mary, Hannah and Edmund)
Other god parent names are Mary-Anne Meade, Edwin Erwin, Brigit Riordan and matthew O Brien in case of help!
Any help greatly appreciated!
Thanks, Jackie Leahy

Thank you Col! Such a quick and interesting reaction/feedback :)
Catherine's side is a score for sure. Funny how the O' is dropped on some forms, or maybe it is me reading it in - with the O' is still present as a secod name among some of the family!
Last John Leahy that I can trace was from Charleville and his father is listed as a farmer. Seem to be stuck on that one! I guess though Hospital is not too far from Charleville so could be, however, none of those names occur as godparents for any children baptised. Brigid Riordan, Edwin Erwin, Mary-Anne Meade, Joanna Leahy - they all seem to be the names that might give futher clues!
Really appreciate your help

Jackie, I just checked nli RC registers (registers.nli.ie) (free site) and Charleville parish is there with baptisms 1827-81.
It's tough going but may be worth the effort.

thank you for this Col. I had a quick look and indeed spotted a Leahy name on that quick search but it really is hard to read! I will wait and see if any Leahy's or Charleville historians are able to shed further light.
Am making great headway with the Sharpe side from Liscaroll so many thanks to all the community contributors :)
