Any information on Michael Bateman (b. about 1818) in Cork and married to Hannah Warner in Cork in 1840.
They had one son, Richard John, (probably born around 1862 in Bantry, Cork) who migrated to Australia probably in the early 1890s.
Seeking any information on this family and their ancestors.

Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!
I searched on Roots Ireland and also www.irishgenealogy.ie and was unable to find a baptismal record for Richard Bateman anywhere in Ireland. Also searched for the marriage record of Michael and Hannah and again no record. Since they married in 1840 and had Richard in 1862, were there any other children form 1840-1862?
Any other facts about the family?
The 1852 Griffiths Valuation head of household listing for Co. Cork did list three Michael Batemans but not sure if your ancestor is one of the three.

Thanks for your efforts.
I have little information Richard was actually Richard John Bateman and was born 12/3/1862 in Bantry (if the information is correct) and no record of siblings.
I have attached a copy of Michael and Hannah's Marriage Licence and Bonds for Cork and Ross.
Richard John's death record, records his death on 9/7/1930 in St Kilda, Victoria, and show his parents as Michael and Hannah (Warner).
There is some suggestion that Michael's father was William and mother Hannah (but this has never been verified).

I have never seen a book with Marriage Bonds by surname. So they waited 22 years before their first child.
I searched again on www.irishgenealogy.ie (Church Records) and did not locate the 1840 marriage or the 1862 baptism in Banttry. Here is a link to the parish register for Bantry. I looked in 1862 both March and December and did not see Richard's record https://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0019

Thanks Roger for your efforts. Would there be a copy of this bond or would it have been lost in the fire?

The fact that these names are listed on an index of Marriage Licences and Bonds would suggest that this couple were most likely Church of Ireland. Of the approximately 230 Bateman individuals listed in Co. Cork on the 1901 census just over 20 are Catholic, the remainder various Protestant denominations. Do you know what denomination your Bateman family were in Australia ?
The Church of Ireland parish for the town of Bantry was Kilmacomogue, unfortunately based on the latest RCBL parish list it seems that the early records for this parish do not survive. These indexes are usually all that has survives for these Licence and Bonds.
I presume you have seen the Slater's 1846 listing of a Michael Bateman boot & shoe maker of Main Street, Bantry..

Thank you for your reply to my enquiry.
I believe they may have been Protestants but can't verify that (they could have been lapsed Catholics).
Yes, I have seen Michael Bateman in the 1846 listing as a boot and shoe maker but am unsure whether this is him.
I'll have to follow this up.
Regards.
