Hello, I have DNA matches to several people who have a Healy ancestor from County Galway, perhaps the Abbeyknockmoy area. My g.grandfather, Michael Healy, was born in 1850. He emigrated to the U.S. around 1871. I believe his parents names were Michael Healy and Ann Morrissey. Any information is greatly appreciated!

K. Healy:
Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!
Below is a the likely baptismal record for Michael in 1843 in Abbeyknockmoy. Also found a brother James in 1845. Did not see the parent's marriage record. They lived in one of the Brierfield townlands (there are six of them in the same general area) in Abbeyknockmoy civil parish.

Hello k.healy,
I too have Healy ancestors from the Brierfield area of Abbeyknockmoy parish. I'm related to a William Healy born circa 1813. His wife was Catherine? They had a son Pat and a daughter Bridget (born circa 1856). Now that I see Catherine as a sponsor for James Healy, this may be my Catherine. Sometime I will join the roots site as it has access to older parish records. My ancestors were recorded living in Brierfield in the 1870s. I don't have a lot more information on them except William's will only mentions his wife and daughter Bridget. B. Alcorn.

I too have Healy ancestry in the area
Bridget Healy was born in Coolourty, townland adjacent to Brierfield, to parents William and Catherine
William was from Gatestown Moylough
Catherine was nee Healy and likely from Coolourty

Hello Martin,
It was great to get your message. I was actually born Mulry from Dangan, in Killererin parish. I posted some information on my knowledge of the Mulry family after seeing a post on a Thomas Mulry from the same area. I may have seen your name in relation to that post, maybe I'm wrong. I was hoping that someone with Mulry ancestry might be able to help me trace the Mulry line back a bit further. I am related to a Pat Mulry (born circa 1808) who married Mary Mahon (Athenry parish) and lived in Dangan at the time of the 1851 Census. I'm assuming he was born in Killererin parish but the records are scant prior to 1864. I've been told that our family has Curley ancestors but know nothing of them. Its interesting to see a bit of information on the Healy side. Just out of curiosity, could such info be available on Roots? It looks as if the wife of Will Healy (born circa 1823, my error in typing 1813) was also Healy.
I have yet to take a DNA test but was intending to take the same one recently taken by an aunt, when I get the opportunity. I live in Ireland by the way and only started researching ancestors about 18months ago. Fortunately records for most of my relevant parishes go back a bit and the 1821 Census of Athenry was a bonus. I would be happy to join the group but my technology skills are quite basic. Thanks again for your reply, B. Alcorn.

Your father Johnny was my 2nd cousin
William and Catherine nee Healy lived in Coolourty rather than Brierfield That confused me as to who you were speaking of
You don't have Curley ancestry - just cousins via my mother who was your gran Bridget Carty's 1st cousin
I visited your dad a few times between 2010 and his death RIP
Has your aunt Annie done a DNA test? a few of her grandchildren your 1C1R have - I had suggested that they do an Ancestry.com/dna test for her
Nice to meet

It's a small world as they say and nice to meet you. Sorry if I confused you on the Healy family. The marriage record of Bridget Healy mentions Brierfield as place of residence. Mum had mentioned Curley relations so thank you for clarifying that for me. You seem to know alot more about The Mulry side of my family tree than I do. I don't know if my aunt has taken a DNA test, a sister of Mum's got me into ancestry research and it seems to make sense for me to take the same oneas her. You posted that Catherine Healy was nee Healy so I may find her in the Abbeyknockmoy records. I knew so little on starting this and have come a bit of a way thanks to the available resources. It was Dad who mentioned the name Healy to me. Thanks for your help and what is 1C1R?
B. Alcorn.
