My Grandmother Martha(Mattie) Duncan was born in Raphoe in 1894. We are visiting in June 2018 and would value any information regarding her family who lived at the Craigs and also her Father James Duncan ,who had the drapers store on the Diamond.

Thankyou. Can anyone tell me how to find the Craigs townland in Raphoe when we visit in June?

I've been looking at Google Maps and I don't see Craigs but I do see Craigs Road just northwest of the town of Raphoe. I'm sure someone in the town can give you directions.

Hello Tess
I joined the group and saw your message about Martha.
My grandmother was Agnes Duncan the half sister of Martha your grandmother. My granny used to visit at the Aunt Esther's. I would love to find out more about my grandmother's early life growing up in Raphoe and also more on the origin of the Duncan family- I think they may have originally been Scottish but I don't know for sure.
I recently visited Raphoe and saw the location of James's draper shop.
Perhaps someone in the chat knows if the Duncan family were originally Scottish.

Hello Judey
It was great to hear from a grandchild of Agnes. I think she was a witness on my grandparents wedding certificate but I couldn't find anything more about her. Did she stay in Ireland?
We visited Raphoe last June and had a very interesting visit we visited the old farm at Craigs where Auntie Esther lived.
The Duncans certainly came over from Scotland but I do not know where.
Hopefully we can catch up some more?

Hello Tess
I have only just seen your reply made in February! That's interesting about the marriage certificate. Yes, my granny Agnes stayed in Ireland. I think she was schooled in the Royal School and did teaching training and then married my grandfather and they lived and brought up their family of 5 in Belfast. My mum was the baby of the bunch.
My email is- judith.rowley@gmx.de if you want to get in touch.Best regards Judith

Hi There,
I am looking for descendants of the Duncan family of Raphoe. I have nuemrous DNA matches that link back to Mathew Duncan (parents Matthew Duncan and Catherine Wilson) and Esther Lindsay (parents David Lindsay and Mary Duncan, who married in 1861.
I am working hard to determine how I fit into the puzzle but am looking for help from Duncan or Lindsay descendants.
If anyone would be willing to help me it would be greatly appreciated. My email address is scottish_bird@yahoo.com.
Best Regards
Lorraine Murphy
