Hello,

I am descended from Patrick Ryan and Mary Moloney who came to Australia in 1854. Patrick and Mary married at Castleconnell in 1835, according to Patrick's death certificate in Victoria in 1870. 

They came here on the 1854 voyage of the Omega - Patrick was 44 an agricultural labourer, Mary 40, Mary 18, William 10 and Ann 4. They had already lost several children in Ireland - Bridget, Ann, Margaret, Ellen and Patrick.  Patrick may have had a brother named Denis who went to Victoria as well. 

Patrick was a publican in Melbourne. William and Mary also ran hotels, Mary very successfully. William died aged 44, his death perhaps exacerbated by access to alcohol. He was my ancestor.

Is there any way to find more about the marriage and  families of Patrick Ryan and Mary Moloney?

    Unfortunately, the Castleconnell RC records do not start until 1850  https://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0758  I did search Roots Ireland and they had an 1837 marriage (see below) in the Hospital RC parish which is a few parishes south of Castleconnell but since both names are very common, I assume this record is for a different couple. I also looked for baptismal records, hoping that younger children might be listed but again no record.

    I also looked at the 1850 Griffiths Valuation head of household listing for Stradbally civil parish (which to Castleconnell RC parish) and there were ten Patrick Ryans listed. Also, if he was an agricultural labourer, he may not have leased land on his own and would not be in the Griffiths http://www.failteromhat.com/griffiths/limerick/stradbally.htm

    Also, have you considered autosomal DNA testing?
