Timothy or T J O'Callaghan was my great-grandfather. He appears in most of the Trade Directories from 1846 to 1881 either as a Printer or latterly, a Photographer. He died at St. Patrick's Hospital in Cork City on 9th January 1884 and, I believe, was buried at St. Joseph's Cemetery on 11th January.
My maternal grandfather, William Patrick O'Callaghan was born 3rd March 1868 and baptised the following day at South Parish, Cork. I have found six of my grandfather's siblings, baptised between 1850 and 1864 but believe that there were others born earlier. I have found a record of a Marriage Bond for Timothy O'Callaghan and Jane Logan dating from 1841 but no other definite baptisms until 1850. A Thaddeus O'Callaghan was baptised in 1844 but the mother's name is recorded as Jane Lucan.
I suspect that that is enough for now. I will be grateful for any help.
Thank you,
Peter.

Dear Peter:
Thank you for your query to the Ireland Reaching Out message board and welcome to the site!
Your ancestor Timothy O'Callaghan sounds very interesting and he would make a great Ancestor profile addition to the XO Chronicles. You might consider creating one for him. You can do so by going to the link below:
https://www.irelandxo.com/ireland-xo/history-and-genealogy
In addition, you might also check the following sources for further research:
Irish News Archives. This is a subscription site which has Irish newspapers and you might find further information about Timothy due to his professional skills in newspapers. The link is below:
http://www.irishnewsarchives.com
For parish register information which is free on this site: Irish Genealogy is also very good. They have a Civil Records section which will assist you from 1864 onwards, but previous to that, they have a Church Records section, and I believe that Cork City parish registers are on this site. Their website is below:
You might also find records under Roots Ireland, which is another subscription site. This site is below:
Finally, you may be able to trace forward by looking at the Censuses of 1901 and 1911. They are online and freely available through the National Archives. The link is below:
http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/search/
Another source for information is the Cork City Archives. They have some sources online.

Last but not least are the graveyard inscriptions. These are located in the Cork City Archives but also in the Historic Graves website.
If you need any further information or assistance, please let me know.
Good luck with your research!
Kind regards,
Jane.

Dear Jane,
Thank you so much for your reply and for all the information and links supplied. I have just returned from a holiday and was delighted to receive your message. I have used some of the suggested sites before but not recently so I will try them again for anything new to my research. However, I didn't know about the graveyard inscriptions and I will start there.
I will also attempt to create an Ancestor profile for Timothy as I have obtained various items relevant to Timothy's life in Cork which might lead to further discoveries.
I'll finish here for now but will return to this site very soon.
Thanks once again,
Peter.
