Margaret McDonnell(?) Harrington of Cork, Wife of Timothy Harrington of Cork.

Can you clarify how you know that the 1813 record is your ancestor? The reason I ask is that there is also an 1818 baptismal record for a Margaret McDonnell with parents Cors McDonnell and Mary Sullivan. This means that there were two couples with the same names in the sam parish or the 1813 Margaret died and the couple named a later child Margaret. This was a fairly common custom. I'm using www.irishgenealogy.ie as a source for records for parishes in the Diocese of Cork and Ross. Other parishes in the Diocese of Cloyne in Co. Cork are found on the subscription site Roots Ireland.

Thanks so much for getting back.  I don't know for sure.  I do know in in several census Margaret's birth year is given as 1815.  In one other it is given as 1803 and another 1810.  I chose this document as it most closly matched the dates I had.  Do you have anything which could point to the Margaret born in 1818?  All the documents I have only name my GG Grandmother as Margaret Harrington, beginning in 1850.

I do know Ellen McDonnell Bush(e)'s information as I got it from her GGG Granddaughter, whom I match as a 4th cousin.  Her children, Ellen and John Bush, are living with my GG Grandparents in Manhattan, NY in 1855, as is Mary Ward-sister. This seems to fit perfectly and matches the DNA.

I actually found three (3) Margaret McDonnell born to Cors McDonnell and Mary Sullivan:  1815, 1818 and 1829.  Would you want more information on these?  I know the history of a child named for a child that was diseased.  It is also part of the family history in the US. 

Since I don't have any solid information about Cors McDonnell and Mary Sullivan, I'm grasping at straws.  I can't find any census with everyone.  I can't find any church records that connect all of these people.  I can't find any marriage records in the US or on irishgenealogy.  I can't find burial records for any of the Margarets.  I can't find what ships they may have immigrated.  The dates of immigration seem consistant:  Timothy in 1843 (I have his documents of citizenship petition) and Margaret in 1843.  They didn't seem to have an Emigrant Bank Account which was very helpful for my O'Neil GG Grandparents.

I feel your frustration. On www.irishgenealogy.ie when I search in Co. Cork for all McDonnell baptismal records with mother Mary Sullivan, I only get four records: The 1813 and 1818 Margarets, Anne 1815 and Cors 1821.  I would tend to believe the 1818 Margaret is your ancestor. I know 1818 conflicts with the USA records you found.

Thanks Roger.  Will need to wait for investigations from the Bushe descendants in Baltimore, Cork, Ireland to see if they find anything else.  They have been visiting old cemeteries in the Islands where the family home once was.

The 1818 birthday would seem more plausible as my G Grandfather was born in 1848.  Being 30 years old when he was born seems more reasonable.

I have recently discovered new documents for my GG Grandmother.  According to her death certificate she was born Margaret McDonald, 1823 Ireland.  Her parents are given as James McDonald and Margaret.  We belive that her mother may have been Margaret Scanlan/Scanlon.  Margaret McDonald Harrington's sister, Bridget McDonald is buried with Margaret and her husband Timothy Harrington in Calvary Cemetery, Woodside, Queens, New York.  Bridget's death certificate indicates that she is single.  She is living with Tim and Marg at the time of her death.

I've attached copies of their death certificates.

Would you be able to help with any documents?  I've found a document that indicates a Margaret Harrington immigrating from Cork, Ireland 1843-1844.  This agrees with the census information that margaret provided over the years.  We have not been able to find any verification that Margaret and Timothy were married before departing Ireland.  Timothy's death certificate indicates that he was born in 1807.  His census and immigration information indicate that he was from Cork.

I've had no success in finding a baptismal record for Margaret using the new info you provided. I did find a lead on Bridget. See record below. NOTE the mother is shown as Margaret Murphy. The Carrigline/Templebrigid baptismal records start January 1826 so if this record is for the Bridget in your note then a record for Margaret would not exist. All the best with your research!
