Hello, I am looking for any information regarding great great great grandparents Thomas Robert Johnstone and Margaret Ann Jackson, who left Cavan in 1857  with their infant daughter Jane Theresa, sailing from Liverpool aboard the “Echunga” arriving in Port Albert Victoria Australia as unassisted immigrants in August 1857. I can find no birth certificate for Jane Theresa Johnstone born ?1856, or marriage certificate for Thomas and Margaret Ann. One of their childrens birth certificates gives Margaret Ann’s place of birth as Pullibawn Cavan. On their death certificates Thomas’s father is John Thomas Johnstone (occupation:Farmer)unknown mother place of birth County Cavan Ulster. He was born abt 1830. Margaret Ann’s parents were John Jackson and Elizabeth Waldon. The informant gave place of birth as Belfast? I dont know how correct this is. Margaret Ann was born abt. 1830  also. Both were Protestant.I have found 1821 census returns for Waldons and Jacksons in  Pullakawn but I am not sure if they are connected. Looking forward to  reply. Thanking you , Thea

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

I located the marriage record on the subscription site Roots Ireland. This is likely the civil record since the fathers names are shown. Margaret is shown as living in Pullabawn in Denn parish. There is no townland now which is close to that spelling in Denn parish but in Kilmore parish which border Denn there is a Pollabane townland.

I also located the 1821 census reocrd for Margaret's parents and older sister. See link below.

Hello Roger, thankyou for the links to various websites. I have been able to find records of various Waldon and Jackson families of Pulabawn, and Johnstons of  Ardlougher in the 1821 census returns. This has helped greatly as at least I know we are on the right track and we now have  a definite home parish and townland! To begin with all I had was : place of birth.... ulster Cavan!

    Thanks again , Thea
