    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

Can you clarify the information in your message? You indicate that your great-grandfather John was born in 1872 and died in 1928. What was his wife's name? You also indicate that your grandfather John came to NYC in 1904 which would mean he was born in the 1880s which would be inconsistent if his father was born in 1872.

You also indicate that your grandmother died in 1903 in Kanturk. What was her name and was she married to your grandfather.?

    Thanks!

I located the 1872 civil birth record and     Knockatoumpane townland in Tullylease civil parish.

    https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/birth_retur…

I found the family in the 1901 census. Two children Denis and Ellen were living with James and Kate.

    1911 census http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Cork/Tullylease/Knocka…

I was unable to locate a civil death record for Catherine or James but it appears you did find thos records. I also could not find the marriage record for James and Catherine.

Thank you so much, I have never been able to find the marriage record or much more beyond James and Catherine. Also never have been able to find out what happened to Denis or Ellen . My sister and I are very excited about at the very least being in the village in which the Morrissy's lived.

  • Wondering if there are any Morrissey relatives still living in Tullylease or surrounding area. Is there a way to discover?

I scanned the online Irish phone book for Morrisseys in Cork and did not see any potential leads. Maybe someone local will see your message and comment.  Have you had your DNA tested? You may get matches not necessarily in Ireland but to people in the States/Canada/Australia etc who have more info on your family. (By the way, I live in the States).

Keep us posted on your trip plans. When you get to the village of Tullylease, I would ask locals for any Morrisseys in the area. Knockanatoumpane is a little more than a miles south of Tullylease village.

Kanturk is 18 kilometers south of Tullylease. Use Google Maps to see the location of the two towns.
