O'Doherty/O'Daugherty/O' Dochartaigh

Im also a descendant of Michael Mor through his son William. Our branch ( as far as I have read) left Virginia, went south to Georgia? and then on to North Texas (Rusk). I was looking up The Laggan, as that was initially the territory of the Dochartaigh clan before they were forced out? and took Inishowen from another clan. Any further info you've found would be appreciated.

Hello, Michael MOR Daugherty born 1690 in Donegal is also my many times grandfather. His son Charles George born 1710 in Lagan Valley, Donegal. Charles and many family members were killed during an Indian raid in the colony of Virginia in 1763. As the Daugherty family grew my ancestors ended up in California. Do you have additional sites AncestryDNA or Family Search to compare our family line's

Michael's son Charles married Rebecca Cunningham.  They were my 5th great grandparents through their daughter Catherine.  There were two Indian raids, first in 1761 and then in 1763 and some confusion about who died when.  Chief Cornstalk of the Shawnee tribe attacked farms in Virginia and most of the men were killed in what was known as the Kerr Creek Massacre.  From what I've found the women and children may have been at church and so survived.  After the men died Charle's wife Rebecca moved on to Kentucky and remarried.  Her family then moved on up and settled in Illinois where the next generations continued until my mother's birth.  I don't really know much about the other two sons.  If you google Kerr Creek Massacre and Cornstalk you may find some accounts of that time.  I've got a Quick family tree on ancestry under danmurphy521.

Im not sure of what our family did in Ireland before they left and can only speculate as to why they left. 

Ive read about Charles' family surviving the raid because they were in church. Your line is truly blessed to have survived that. My side was saved by the efforts of William's wife Elizabeth (Bunch) who raced through the valley on horseback warning every family she could about the oncoming raid. It is written that William was away on business. 

My side of the family as far as I can gather became very involved with the Cherokee. William, in some accounts is listed as being one of the first Crown appointed traders to the tribe. Reading Cherokee history we may have another Daugherty who was even more well known for this named Cornelius. William's wife Elizabeth was a Bunch . I grew up hearing that the Bunch family were Cherokee. What I've come to find is that they were Melungeon ( at least the one's Im related to) and that yes they were involved with the tribe but may have been part Pamunky, Powhattan, or Saponi. At any rate my side became fully Cherokee with William's son John Jack Daugherty serving among the Cherokee auxiliaries in the Creek Wars. My family moved down to Cherokee Nation in Georgia along the Coosawattee river. Due to internal tribal politics and despicable laws passed by the state of Georgia they then left for Tennessee and Kentucky, and then on to Missouri and Arkansas. This was the migration route for many Cherokee who left the east prior to Removal and the Trail of Tears. After a time in Arkansas my family then moved down to Texas where we have been ever since.
