Hello,  I am just after a head start on finding my Mothers grandmothers family.  The information i have so far is my Great Great Grandmother Mary Ellen Cahill married Peter Mitchell (Tipperary) on the 6 Sep 1910 in Cork.  They had 6 children n 5 survived.. Margaret, Christina, Maud, Peter and Sheila ( my Grandmother, still alive).

Mary Ellen Cahill's father was William Cahill as per wedding cert.  i have been told he may have married a Mary Anne Carroll in Tipperary?

Mary Ellen also had siblings but i can only remember 1 Timothy as all information i had it has been misplaced.

I thank you so much for any information and for your time on helping.

Cheers Sharon Miller

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

Do you know how old Mary Anne Cahill was when she married? I searched tthe subscription site Roots Ireland and located a William Cahill/Mary Anne Carroll marriage in 1890 in Caher parish in South Tipperary. I don't think this is the correct record because Mary Ellen Cahill was listed as full age (at least 21) on her marriage record which would imply that she was born pre-1890.

    Let me know.

Located Peter and Mary Ellen in the 1911 census in Waterford  http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Waterford/Waterford_No…; She was shown as age 21 so maybe the 1890 marriage was for her parents.

    Hi Roger,

Thank you for getting back to me. I really have no idea now how old Mary Ellen was. I will have to ask one of my relatives in Ireland. I am in Australia since 1974 so don't have access to stories from earlier years.

I did have a look and have the certificate for William Cahill and Mary Anne Carroll now thank you for that one.

If that is the death cert of William could do you think that the marriage to Mary Anne Carroll was a second marriage, just thinking as he was late of age, Divorce was not heard of.

I thank you for your time and will keep on looking for family.

I searched for a civil marriage record for the 1890 William Cahill marriage but did not locate a record. The civil record would show whether he was a widower or a bachelor. You can try the free site www.irishgenealogy.ie and maybe you will hav esome success finding the record.
