Looking for ancestors of John Joseph Kennedy and wife Bridget Kennedy [born Murray]
John Joseph K was born 25th August 1858 Tipperary possibly in Terryglass.
Bridget Kennedy was born 15th may either 1863 or 1865. possibly Ballylucka.
John and Bridget were married 1st march1881 at Cloughjordan by Priest Patrick Kennedy.
We think John Josephs parents were Micheal and Margaret [Sweeney] Kennedy. Micheal was possibly a blacksmith.
Bridget Kennedy's parents were Edward and Agnes Mary Murray, possibly from Ballylucka.
John and Bridget Kennedy and their children emigrated to New Zealand some time around 1885 -1890 via Australia.
Johns sister Margaret also emigrated to NZ at the same time, where Margaret married Micheal Coyle.
Consequently I am at the bottom of the world struggling to find my Irish roots.

Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!
Here is a link to the 1881 civil marriage record for John and Bridget. It confirms that John's father Michael was a blacksmith from Ardcrony and Bridget's father was Edward and the Murrays were from Ballyluska also in Ardcrony civil parish.
https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/marriage_re…
The subscription site Roots Ireland has an August 25, 1855 baptismal record in Terryglass for John Kennedy. His parents were married earlier in 1855 in Terryglass.I also saw baptismal records for siblings Mary 1857 Edward 1858 Bridget 1861 Honoria 1870
I was not able to find a baptismal record for Bridget or her parents marriage record.

Thank-you for the very quick reply, this tells me that my great grandfather John Joseph Kennedy had siblings we did not know about.
It is my Kennedy heritage that I am trying to research.
Is it possible to go back further than Micheal Kennedy?
I have a family tree on My Heritage, but it now appears that ancestors beyond Micheal Kennedy are not correct.

Kilbarron/Terryglass RC records go back to 1827. https://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0809 Assuming Michael was baptized in that parish, there are at least five baptismal records in the parish which could be him according to the subscription site Roots Ireland. There are 1831, 1832 1835 1836 and 1837 records which would all fit with someone who married in 1855.

Hi
I did an Ancestry search for John Joseph Kennedy with that date of birth and found three family trees with an almost exact mirror image of that family, parents Michael Kennedy and Ann not Margaret Sweeny their son born 25 Aug 1859 married Mary Bridget Murray all born Tipperary but the problem is they emigrated to San Francisco with, tree has very clear photos of some and in particular Bridget Murray
I realise this does not add anything to the query but might help eliminate some avenues, if you are an Ancestry member I can send you a link as dont think link will be readable unless a member unfortunatly
Will research further

Just to add to previous note, there is some history of a Kennedy family living in Terryglass who were blacksmiths possibly two generations they had a forge right in the centre of the village
Will get back to you in a few days on that will have to go digging in the records
We completed a project in 2015 on emigration from Terryglass to Canada in the early 1800s to mid 1800s and an extended Kennedy family from Terryglass featured in that rather tragically as it happened will check if any similiar names.

Link might be useful for example in showing the relationship and distance from Terryglass to Ballylusky and Cloughjordan with the main town of Borrisokane in the middle

Hi Bill You have the correct family here.
Yes the Kennedy's moved to San Francisco, but came via New Zealand where they stayed for 5 or 6 years. In that time Bridget left John Joseph and kept the youngest boy Alfred Joseph, who was my grand father and they stayed in NZ. Bridget then remarried twice before passing away in 1953.
They had 7 children in total, with 6 travelling on to San Francisco. There were 4 boys and 3 girls.
There is some confusion as to which of the children were born in Ireland and who was born in NZ. We know the youngest was born in NZ.
I am in contact with family from San Francisco, and we are comparing notes on our Kennedy and Murray heritage.
The year of 1859 for Johns birth I believe to be correct as this corresponds with a document that I have.
I also have information on Johns sister Margaret [Coyle] as they are also in New Zealand.
thank you for your time and interest
Ian

Re the photo's they may well be my own, on my Kennedy Blair, "My Heritage" ancestry website, as I inherited a number of family photo's a few years ago, and then posted them on the MH website.
The names of John and Bridgets children are: It is not clear which country the children were born in, Ireland or NZ, as we are not certain of the date of emigration.
Edward Murray b. 15 april 1882
Mary Catherine b.1884
Margaret Ellen b. 3 sept 1885.
John Joseph b.12 july 1887.
Thomas Dillon b.13 nov 1889.
Ethel Nora b. 25 oct 1891.
Alfred Joseph b. 13 mar 1894 [NZ]

Hi Ian
Expect this refers to Nenagh the largest town in the area

Hi Bill
Please excuse the spelling, as my Irish geography is hopeless. I would presume that Nenagh would be correct.
I have just found a letter that was written by Bridgets mother Mary Murray to Mary's grandson Edward Kennedy in San Francisco.
Letter dated 19 jan 1907 Ballylusky and was posted in Cloughjardan 23rd jan 1907. and signed as your grand mother and grand father. Which would confirm that Edward and Mary Murray were living in Ballylusky [is spelling correct?] at that period of time.
I see on Bridgets death certificate that Edward Murray was from Aberdeen, but I don't think that is correct.
Bridget's 3rd and last husband was Jock MacCallum who was a very staunch Scot who loved whiskey and stretching stories and he would have done some of the certificate. I remember him well as I was about 12 when he died.
Hope this fills a few gaps.

Hi Bill
On closer inspection of Bridget's death certificate I note that Bridget's mother Mary Agnes Murray was born M A McRay.
Also states that her father Edward Murray was a farmer.
As a side issue I see that there are Ryan's and Kenney's [or Kenny] coming through on my DNA matches, 3rd to 4th cousin apart.
Hope there was good weather for your holiday.
