Hi,

Trying to trace my Great Grandfather Michael Meany. He was married In 1898 to Mary Clarke from Woodpark. Census in 1901 days he was from Clare but when he was married he was living in Coolready? Can’t find his parents names thus far. Anyone on the same page?

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

The civil marriage record shows that Michael's father was Michael and Mary's father was Joseph. I located Mary's baptismal record on the subscription site Roots Ireland. I did not find Michael's record but many of the Co. Clare RC parishes are not on Roots Ireland. I will look at another subscription site. By the way, Mary had at least nine siblings. I assume you have the 1901 census for her family.

  • Many thanks! I was lucky enough to trace Mary Meaney Nee Clarke. I just have been unable to make progress with Michael - I have looked for the townland on the Marriage cert but cannot seem to make much headway there either.. I do indeed have the 1901 census ans that would be one one reason why the Clarke family grave is so big.

I am having a similar issue with my Dads maternal grandfather but they were from outside of Co Limerick.

Looking forward to hearing if you find more#1

Not sure what happened. I though I sent you a follow-up note but its not here. In any event, I found an 1870 baptismal record in Broadford Co. Clare on the subscription site FindMyPast.ie  The father was Michael Meany and the mother Mary Phillips. Broadford was to the northeast of Castleconnell RC parish in Co. Limerick. I would treat this record as a lead.

  • I had located that one but was not too sure...however, from what some family members have said this may very well make a lot of sense. I think Michael was living in Coolready when he married Mary Clarke but he would have been either a live in work or perhaps living with a relative. Thank you so so much for all your help!!
