I have some connected Hogans in my family tree, George Patrick Hogan b.1834, Elizabeth Hogan b.1838, Esther Hogan b.1841, Richard Hogan b.1847, Godfrey Hogan b.1847 and Mary Ann Hogan b.1850. They all emigrated to New Zealand; Esther with Elizabeth and her husband John Brunskill in 1863; Richard, Godfrey, Mary Ann (and an Alice I can't trace) in 1865; George in 1877 with his 14 year old daughter. I'm sure that George Patrick was born in Adare, County Limerick as it's recorded in his army record, and Elizabeth's burial record says the same. I say they are connected because the records I have all give Michael Hogan as their father's name – for Elizabeth when she married John Brunskill in Castlegregory, County Kerry; and later newspaper reports in NZ said Mary Ann and Richard were from Castlegregory like Elizabeth, but perhaps the family moved there later after George had gone into army, the Canada, British Regimental Register of Service in 1852. Perhaps they were all born in Adare but I don't know how to find this out, maybe they were siblings or cousins, I believe they were Protestant. Mary Ann was my great-grandmother, and I have DNA matches to descendants of some of the others, they lived in the same general area, they witnessed each other's marriage certificates, one signed off a land deal for another, in other words behaved like family. But are they siblings? Only birth or baptismal records will tell I think.

The subscription site Roots Ireland has the records for the Adare Church of Ireland parish back to 1826. I searched and there were no Hogan baptismal records in that parish where the father was Michael. I also searched all of Co. Limerick for a Godrey Hogan baptismal record and got no record.
According to this site, the C of I records for Castlegregory parish were lost in the 1922 Public Record office fire.

Thank you for your research on our behalf. While writing to another descendent, this comment was sent to me:
Richard’s Family etc. Godfrey rings a very likely bell, for when in Ireland in 1966 at the Church of Ireland in Adare together with the Rector we found a Baptismal entry of a Godfrey Hogan. At the time Dad (Richard Allen Hogan) contacted me with belief that it could be an uncle of his! Now this may be a breakthrough on the siblings front. Alice was the mother’s name nee Alice Browne so that’s another confirmation. Remember my contention is that Michael the father was Catholic but changed or allowed the family to be brought up Protestant like Alice. The names you have there includes Alice. Instead of it being a sister could it actually be the mother who got an “assisted” passage to New Zealand as I think Protestants would have got preference for “assisted” passages as Ireland went into its huge period of poverty following the Famine.
Obviously time has gone on since 1966 and memory may be a little inaccurate, but do you think there could be anything in the idea that the children were perhaps baptised as Catholic but brought up as Protestant like their mother, and would Protestants be more likely to get an assisted passage or is this wishful thinking?
