According to my older cousins my grandad, Jeremiah Barry, came from Cork (or possibly Waterford) and had an Irish accent, however, I have so far been able to find his birth certificate. I have found him on the 1891 census in London, England and it says he was born in England. He was born in 1883. His father was Stephen Barry, born in 1844 in Ireland. Stephen was the son of Nora, born in about 1791 and John Barry. So whether my grandfather was born in Ireland or not, my great grandparents definitely were. Can anyone give me advice on how to find out what parish they came from. I would really love to trace my family back to Ireland, but am lost as to how to go any further.

Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!
Do you know the name of Jeremiah's mother and did she and Stephen marry in Ireland or England? If they married in Ireland, we may be able to find a marriage record.
I searched on two sites (one free the other subscription) and did not find a Stephen Barry with father John and mother Nora.
You can add Stephen's story to our XO Chronicles site https://www.irelandxo.com/ireland-xo/history-and-genealogy/ancestor-dat…
Have you considered DNA testing?

Hi Roger,
Yes I do know the name of Jeremiah's mother, it is Annie Elizabeth Steed, born 1856 in Suffolk, England and they were married in England. I have also been DNA tested, but as yet have not discovered any links to my Barry ancestors.
Thank you for trying for me. I am still trying to find my way around this site and will have a look at your XO Chronicles site.
Regards,
Lynne
