Just found an ancester from here.
John Cantwell may have married Alice Walshe (Walshe) and their daughter was Anastasia Theresa born in December 1849 and she married a Charles William MacCarthy from Fethard about 1872.
John's brothers were Rev. Jas. Cantwell
A son was Rev. Walter Cantwell
His uncle was Rev. Dean Cantwell
Would appreciate any information on these people

Maggi:
Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!
I located the September 24, 1873 marriage record for Anastasia and Charles. See link below (third record down). Father's names are shown. Civil records can be found on the free site www.irishgenealogy.ie
I also located a baptismal record for Walter Cantwell on the subscription site FindMyPast.ie The record was in Fethard RC parish. I did not find a record for Anastasia.
I did not locate the John Cantwll/Alice Walshe marriage record.
Did Charles and Anastasia emigrate from Ireland?

Thanks Roger
Anastasia died in Mar 1878 and is buried in Fethard, Tipperary. I could not read the date on the plaque on the wall at the Church when I was there in 2011 as it was very degraded. Charles MacCarthy her husband remarried in 1881 at Dublin and emigrated to Australia in 1884.

Anty is a diminutive for Anastasia (and Anthony).
Was Dean the actual name of Reverend Cantwell or was it one of his religious titles? Could it have been a middle name? Might it have been an abbreviation of another name? E.g. Denis, Daniel, Demetrius. The last is Latin version of Jeremiah, Dermot, Derby/Darby. Could it be a transcription of Owen?
Website KiwiCelts has a section on Irish first names, including common diminutives. Anastasia is on the list of favourite names in Catholic families.

Noel Cantwell was a 20thC footballer (soccer).

Margot Secrette, do you offer your research services for a fee? We are stuck in our research for our paternal great great grandfather from Ireland and may need to retain someone's services. John McGinnis
Thank you. Christine

Hi, I search to help people, I know my way around the sites and sometimes it's quicker for me to do it then to explain.
This John McGinnis, what year about was his birth or let me know what you know about him.
It just depends on the years as to where to look.
You say Charles McCarthy married again in 1881 in Dublin, do you know who he married, I can't find a marriage there.

Hi Margot, thank you so much! This means alot. We know John D. McGinnis' father was John McGinnis. We don't know the names of John McGinnis' parents, that is where we are really stuck.
John was born in (northern?) Ireland about 1831. He married Mary Ann Nichols or Nixon. She was also born in Ireland, her father Thomas Nichols or Nixon. Her mother, Mary Ann (Owens??)
John and Mary Ann moved to Pennsylvania, Delaware County, USA. John died before 1910, Mary Ann in May 1920. They had a son, John D. McGinnis, born 1861 in Aston Mills, Pennsylvania and died in Clifton Heights, Pennsylvania. John D. McGinnis married Mary Emma Tanner, dob: Feb. 1863. Her parents were Thomas Tanner and Mary Clark(e), we only know that Thomas was born in Ireland.
John D. McGinnis had several children, one being Leroy F. McGinnis (Roy) in May 1891, (Tomas, Bernard A, Rose) in Pennsylvania. I don't know if you will be able to find the names of John McGinnis' parents so we can continue to research our family.
I didn't reference a Charles McCarthy, maybe someone else sent you an inquiry?
Thank you again for being so generous.

Hi Chris, I see what has happened.
You must have been reading the Cantwell thread by Maggi, this is where the Charles McCarthy comes in.
If you have relatives born in Northern Ireland you have to use PRONI, Public Recrords of Northern Ireland. This can be very expensive.
Only basic records are available, The Tithe records, Griffiths Valuation.
It's only Catholic info via https://registers.nli.ie is available and the 1901 and 1911 Census, having said that there are a few earlier if you are lucky to find them. This link is from the Tithe records for John McGinis
http://titheapplotmentbooks.nationalarchives.ie/search/tab/results.jsp?…this is John McGinnis
http://titheapplotmentbooks.nationalarchives.ie/search/tab/results.jsp?…These are in the Republic of Ireland, but Monaghan is one of the counties in the province of ULSTER, but in the Republic.
Did these ........He married Mary Ann Nichols or Nixon. marry in Ireland?
Nichols......
http://titheapplotmentbooks.nationalarchives.ie/search/tab/results.jsp?…there are 233 Nixon names.
What year did they go to the USA?
It's just a matter of digging!

Margot, that is very useful information and I can't thank you enough! We'll use your information on our continued search. I hope you have a wonderful weekend.
Best, Chris

Margot, we don't know where they married or when. Wish we had more information to go on but we will keep plugging along.
Thanks again!

Hi,
I hope my message reaches you.
It appears that I have both Cantwell and Walsh from the Fethard/Killusty area in my family tree.
I have a Judy and a Johanna Cantwell born the 12th February 1824 to John Cantwell and Catharine Hease.
I also have an Ellen Walsh born circa 1823 who married John Corr and died in Killusty on the 9th November 1887.
This is the sum of the information I have on both the Cantwells and the Walshes and I'm curious to know if you have been successful in furthering your research into the families?
Regards,
Fiona.

Hi Fiona,
You say......
I have a Judy and a Johanna Cantwell born the 12th February 1824 to John Cantwell and Catharine Hease.
I searched Hease, mainly in County Cork, County Westmeath and County Clare. Do you know where Catherine was from?
I have seen Johanna's Baptism record. Right hand page 5th line down. 12th Feb 1824.
https://registers.nli.ie/registers/vtls000632710#page/155/mode/1upNext..... you say........
I also have an Ellen Walsh born circa 1823 who married John Corr and died in Killusty on the 9th November 1887.
I saw Ellen's death in 1887, her son John was present at the death. Says she is married.
Her son John as above, married and 4 children but was a widower in 1901 and 1911.John Corr married Johanna Darcy, she died in 1901.
https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/deaths_returns/deaths_1901/05724/4615570.pdfIn 1901 the children were with their grandparents DARCY.
http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/reels/nai003917596/In 1911 they were back with their father.
http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/reels/nai003307298/John died in 1931

Hi Margot Thanks for your help with my McCarthy and Cantwell family. I have checked out the links and got a lot of information. The only one I am missing is the death of a Charles William born to Charles William McCarthy and Marion Cuddihy Cantwell about 1884 though I looked on the baptism register from 1884 to 1885 and could not see it. I do confess to having bad eyesight and have trouble reading some of the older writings. Also, they are recorded as arriving in Australia in 1884
Also Charles William remarried a Marion Cuddihy in 1881 somewhere in Dublin but have not found a copy of the marriage yet.
Appreciate the help.

Hi Margot,
Thank you for your help.
My main enquiry relates to the Cantwell and Walsh familys in and around Killusty and Fethard as I have the entire Darcy family tree complete.
I think there's a strong possibility that the Cantwells I've mentioned are linked to the Cantwells that Maggi mentioned in the opening message and I'm just curious to know how far back the research has gone?
My Cantwell connection is coming in on the Darcy side. The Johanna Darcy which you have identified was born to James Darcy from Boolagh, Killusty and Bridget Ryan from Cloran in the parish of Drangan. They married on the 12-1-1866 in Drangan and the record states that Bridget's father was Philip Ryan.
As I mentioned I have the Darcy side complete; however, when I look into the Ryan side I think the most probable birth record and parent match for Bridget is a Philip Ryan and Judy Cantwell in 1842; I have also found a Mary Ryan born to Philip and Judy in 1846. There is further confusion surrounding this because around the same period of time, in 1844, and in the same townsland of Cloran there is a John Ryan born to a Philip Ryan and a Johanna Cantwell.
I then found a record for the birth of a Johanna Cantwell born the 12-1-1824 to John Cantwell and Catherine Hease in the parish of Fethard; and, I have found the headstone record in Rathcoole Cemetery of Catherine Cantwell nee Hayes wife of John Cantwell of Coolanure who died the 11th Feb. 1834 aged 38 years.
Regarding Hease, the name Hease is an old alternative spelling of the surname Hayes.I was hoping to possibly address all this confusion by somehow cross-referencing with another branch of the Cantwell family tree.
All I have on the Walsh family is Ellen's maiden name of Walsh and then all my information relates to her own family; husband's name John Corr, her son James born 1-8-1869, daughter Ellen (Clancy) born circa 1860, my GG grandfather John born circa 1864 and so on until the present day.
Thanks again for your help,
Fiona.Maggi,
You might like to take a look at this link, it's the burial records for the cemeteries in Fethard.

Thanks, Fiona I have checked that link out and found the burial details of my ancestors Charles W and Anastasia McCarthy. It is their daughter Mary Elizabeth's date of death I have trouble with. According to the civil records, she died Apr-Jun 1879 but the burial state 03 Feb 1890 which meant that she stayed in Ireland when her father and step-mother migrated to Australia in 1884 and her birth would have been 1871 which was 2 years prior to her parents recorded marriage.
Guess I will have to check out the prices for a certificate and save madly for the purchase.

Marriage of Charles and Marion
https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/marriage_returns/marriages_1881/11002/8022416.pdfIs this correct, they had Ernest in Australia, there is a newspaper in 1903 in Australia with his birth, a tree has it as 1886.
Use this site for Ireland records, from 1864, births up to 1919, marriages up to 1944 and deaths about 1960.
https://www.irishgenealogy.ie/en/If a record shows and there isn't an image you can get it for about 4 Euro, about £3.75 which is $6.55 Aus.
I just worked it out from yesterdays currancey list.
Just ask for the record not a certificate, the difference is a posh bit of paper.Maggi and Fiona have you both got trees in a site?
