BRITTON and QUIRK

I am thrilled that you have asked about the Quirk Britton connection. 

Not that you asked but at Ancestry DNA I match John Britton of AUS who descends from Patrick Quirke b 1830 1867 and Ptrk's first wife Ellen Stokes. Their daughter Bridget Quirke married a John Britton. I first found John because his family had posted a small public tree to Ancestry which matched a Quirke line that I put on Ancestry. That Quirke line is found in the Tipperary genealogy done by The Rev Walter Skehan. The genealogy is found in his Notes Volumn 43. They are held by a Tipperary library. Thurles or Fethard i believe. Ellen Stokes and Patrick's second wife Catherine Fitzgerald were first and second cousins and related to Rev Walter Skehan. Thus the Quirkes and Brittons were in the Skehan genealogy. 

John Britton and I DNA match as if we are fourth cousins. We actually are fourth cousins once removed who usually share the amount of DNA that fisth cousins share. His higher share of DNA with me has given me a list of shared matches that I have with him. He only tested for fun and does not work on genealogy much less on distant DNA cousins. 

Quick summary: Michael Quirke b aft 1808  and Bridget Morrissey were the parents of Patrick Quirke b 1830 who married Ellen Stokes. They had Bridget Quirke who married John Britton. One son John Francis Britton went to New South Wales and married Catherine Maye. The  upload of Word doc has all the information on my public Ancestry tree. That information is from The Rev Walter Skehan Notes, Vol 43. I hope I did not make mistakes.

Hi mary re your reply. I do not usually log in to Ancestry public files as they require a Bank a/c link and I am not prepared to use this as a trap.

If I get to a public libaray I can do so.

Frank BRITTON wrote a book about his life in Australia and there has been some misleading info shared about managing a rubber plantation. Australia does not have any rubber plantations but the plantation may have triggered that as he worked in partnership with his MAYE brothers-in-law on a banana plantation at one stage. He also was a dairy farmer and cut sugar cane with his brothers-in-law and was well respected by the family.

Am happy to share as I am the family historian in the family.

Hello Anne,

I know very little about Australia but must admit when I read in Skehan that John Francis went to a rubber plantation, I thought, new bit of info for me. I had no idea that AUS had rubber plantations. 

I will be happy to carry the news to all who care, that Frank was into bananas, milk and suger. Actually sounds like breakfast if one sugars bananas.

I have been very interested in the Brittons.  I would like to post general information here as I said but I would also be very pleased if you would email me directly. I have another way that you can access the Skehan information. 

I believe that my direct email address shows but if it does not I will list it here.
