Just wondering if anyone knows where the Tuohill's/ Twohill's of Linerick are now?
My great grandfather was Simon, born around 1842, and his father was George Tuohill. Simon left Derraulin, Limerick in the 1850's and went to New Zealand for a couple of years before moving to Australia.in the mid 1850's.
He had brothers and sisters as well, but I don't think any of them came over with him. There was a David, George, Ellen, Margaret.

I checked the 1901 and 1911 census records and there was one Twohill family in Derraulin headed by a widow named Ellen. I checked further and her husband was John who died in early 1901. His date of birth was around 1831 so John was likely an older brother of Simon. Ellen died in 1920 and I believe the farm went ot the oldest son in Ireland-- George. I located death records for four of the five children cited in the 1911 census. All were unamrried so I think the family died out in 1947 when George died. The informant for George's death record was a first cousin with the surname of O'Connor. FYI I located all of the death records on the free site www.irishgenealogy.ie

Hello Roger,
Thanks so much for your quick reply. How unfortunate that none of them had married. I was hoping to locate some of them still in Limerick, but that's how it goes sometimes.
I'll continue to slog along. It looks like many of my Irish families have either died out or moved to other places.
