My grandfather’s sister, Elizabeth Sweeney, married Maurice Curtin in New York City on August 22, 1936.  Maurice Curtin was born on September 2, 1902 in County Cork, possibly Knockatooan, where he is listed on the 1911 census.  His father is listed as Cornelius.  His mother’s name is not listed so I am presuming she was dead.  Uncle Maurice and Auntie Liz are buried in the Bronx with Jeremiah Curtin and his wife Nell.  Jeremiah was born on April 4, 1908 in Cape Clear, County Cork.  These four names I have heard my whole life and remember great Auntie Liz.  What I have not been able to ascertain is how Maurice and Jeremiah were related.  They are all buried together so it’s obvious they’re family.

Second question, is there any way of knowing if Maurice and Jeremiah were related to Tomas MacCurtain (born Thomas Curtin in 1884)?  He was the Lord Mayor of Cork City shot dead in 1920.

As always thank you for any and all information.  The questions never stop, even if I don’t get the answers to all of them.  -Kathleen Logue
