I'm searching for the origins of my great great great grandfather, Henry J. Slavin, Sr. He was born in Donegal in 1801. He immigrated to Albany, NY, where he married Bridget Murray. They had four sons and one daughter. He died on December 6, 1858, in Albany. I don't even know where to start.

P. Miller:
Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!
Researching in Co. Donegal pre-1850 is very difficult because of the lack of RC church records and civil registration did not begin until 1864.
Have you considered DNA testing? Possibly you will have matches with people who also have Slavin/Slevin connections and have more info on the origins of the family in Donegal.

Thanks, Roger. I have been DNA tested, and I've posted the results on a number of websites. I have not yet connected with anyone who has known common family members.
