Oral tradition has my 2nd great-grandfather coming to the U.S. from Meath. Christopher Fagan was first listed in the U.S. census in Farmington, Connecticut, USA, in 1850. Other data: born 1821 in Ireland, married Mary Margaret Conlon in the U.S. and had 9 children, nick- named "the potato king," died in New Britain, Connecticut, 30 December 1872, while living in same city.

We have no parrish or sibling information. Any and all is greatly appreciated.

Many thanks,

Jack Fagan

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

I checked the subscription site Roots Ireland and they have a number of Christopher Fagan baptismal records in Co. Meath but none between 1812 and 1829. Likely your Christopher was baptized in a church that no longer has records back to around 1820.

You could add Christopher’s emigration story to our XO Chronicles and possibly someone will see a connection https://www.irelandxo.com/ireland-xo/history-and-genealogy/ancestor-database

    Have you considered DNA testing?

  • Roger,

I have done the DNA test and I am 96% Irish. This is consistent with all the research done to date. We just keep hitting a wall trying to find Christopher's birthplace. Maybe I'll try your suggestion about the XO Chronicles.

    Thanks for your help!

I don't know if you have looked at your matches and contacted the closest matches to see which line(s) they match you. Possibly you will locate a match with Fagan connections who has more info on the origins of the family in Co. Meath.

There is also a volunteer run site called Genesis Gedmatch www.genesis.gedmatch.com where you can load your Ancestry DNA and see additional matches with people who tested with other companies and also loaded their data to Genesis Gedmatch.

  • Roger,

Thank you. That makes more sense to me now. I will give it a try.
