The original Irish (Gaelic) root of the surname you seek was Ó Giollaráin and it had a wide range of spelling variations... (see full list below)
You could try running these variations through the Irish Census Search or Headstones Archive for some clues. It will certainly show you what townlands / parishes were Gilraine strongholds in the 20th century.
