We are sending this email on behalf of a friend of ours (Cathy Hogan) who will be traveling to Ireland in March and will be going to Townland Annagh and to Our Lady Queen of Ireland church in Rathcabbin.

Cathy’s great grandparents lived in Annagh.  Her great grandfather Michael Hogan died on 18 Aug 1879 in Annagh.  His wife Mary Curtain Hogan was present at his death.  His wife Mary Curtain Hogan died on 09 Jun 1890 in Annagh and her daughter Kate Hogan Bligh was present at her death.  Kate Hogan Bligh and her husband emigrated shortly thereafter to the U.S. and ended up living in Biddeford, ME with three other children of Michael and Mary Curtin Hogan.

Michael and Mary Curtin Hogan’s son Michael remained in the Annagh area.  He married Maria Heenan from Lisgreen (Rathcabbin) on 24 Feb 1876.  Michael and Maria (Mary) Heenan Hogan had several children born between 1876 and 1885.  Mary Heenan Hogan died on 1 Dec 1915 in Lisheen, Rathcabbin.

All of the family marriages we could find records for took place in the Church or Chapel of Rathcabbin. We know this Church or Chapel has been replaced with Our Lady Queen of Ireland RC Church in Rathcabbin.

Cathy would love to visit the grave of her great grandparents Michael Hogan and Mary Curtain who lived in Townland Annagh and the grave of her 2nd great uncle Michael Hogan and his wife Maria Heenan Hogan who lived in Rathcabbin.

We are hoping that someone can tell us where the Roman Catholic Cemeteries for Lorrah & Dorrha Parish are located??  If there is a cemetery near or in Rathcabbin or Annagh, then we would guess they would be buried there??  If anyone knows where burial records for the cemeteries are housed, then that information would be very useful.

Thanks in advance on behalf of Cathy Hogan.

  • Hi,
You may be better sending an email to the local newspaper. with all you info. Issued on a Wednesday. You would make next week issue.

Are you in touch with any Heenan or Hogan people?
Telephone book has some in that area.
I did look at the census to get the childrens names,
    1901

this site would say who they married.

I search graveyards for names when we attend festivals (I live in Wales) it's quite a task.
Unless you know anyone who attended a funeral or knows the burial place it's a case of walking around the graves.
They could have been burried anywhere.

The first link is for Dorrha, this is an new project and has only one record.

    This link is for Lorrha

There are several "Annagh" places so be careful to include Tipperary when searching.
I can't find a site listing names, sorry
Rathcabbin, if I remember, some records for Rathcabbin and areas come under Birr, County Offaly, so you may try there.

    Just another thought, search for...
    http://tippfm.com/
It's the radio station for Tipperary, send an email they do help.

    I hope this has helped.

  • Thanks so very much for all your suggestions Margot!  We have not been in touch with any Hogans or Heenans in the Annagh/Rathcabbin area, but will definitely check the on line Irish phone book.  We will also follow through on your other suggestions.

    Thanks again,
