Good evening
I only discovered recently that my Scanlan family lived in/around Annagh. I knew that they had lived in Caherbreagh near Ballymacelligott but at some point they moved to Annagh. My 2x greatgrandparents were Julia (nee Connor) and Edmund Scanlan. Three of their daughters sailed to New Zealand approximately 1870 (Ellen, Lizzie and Mary). Lizzie was my great grandmother. I know there were siblings left behind in Annagh and wondered if any descendents still lived in the district.

Hi Maryhutching,
Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out.
Did they have a sister called Julia?
There is a marriage in 1897 this is the link.........3rd down No.247
https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/marriage_re…
Says, Edmund is still alive. In 1911 there is this Census record of Julia aged 86 and a widow, she isn't listed in the 1901 Census.
http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/reels/nai002545066/
If you use this site, you will be able to match the names, there is a John and an Edward listed as head of family. They must be the brothers.
http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/search/So with all the above info Edmund must have died some time between 1897 and 1911.
This site has births up to 1916, deaths up to about 1960 amd marriages not sure.
https://www.irishgenealogy.ie/en/Cannot see the deaths.........
BUTThis is Julia's birth No. 476
https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/birth_retur…
If you follow Julia's marriage then use familysearch.org you will follow on to find births as they have Ireland births up to 1958. (I am listed)Margot

Thanks Margot
I had found the census records and I know when Edmund senior died - 1903 (his name is written variously as Edward and Scanlon).
I hadnt found Julia the daughter's marriage so thank you for that. I know there were some other brothers so I will play around and see what I can find.
I was interested in any current family who might live locally as they might know some more of the family history.Cheers
Mary
