Hi, I have found a Baptism record for Thomas Crinnion baptised 1st September, 1851. Other records have dates from 1846 to 1851.
The residence shown is New Road, Ardee, Armagh, Louth.
Father: Thomas Crinnion
Mother: Teresa Cartney (McCartney in other records.
I would just like to know if there is a map anywhere that I could view the address or is the address still there?
Thanking you in advance
Veronica

Hello Veronica, not sure I can locate New Road circa 1851 as it was likely renamed, however there are old maps available to view on the Ordnance Survey site (maps body in Ireland) See https://www.osi.ie/ Maps should be available from 1854 when Griffiths Valuation for the area was completed. The land holders and tenants are available here, http://www.askaboutireland.ie/griffith-valuation/index.xml?action=nameS… Locally Crinion spelled with one N, I see only one but about 26 in Meath, a few miles down the road including a Thomas, there is only one in Louth. There are plenty of McCartney and two Cartney,
Now Louth is a county as in a geographic area, a county. It is in the church diocese of Armagh, which is the counties of Armagh and Louth, so the address is New Road, Ardee, County Louth. There is a good site on Louth here, http://jbhall.clahs.ie/ I have sent the link previousky and it did not work so Google Louth Genealogical Sources and it should pop up. I see mention of a New Road circa 1918 on it.
The is a Facebook page Louth Genealogy and you may find some one from Ardee who can place it for you. Also I was talking to a Crinion person who tells me the name is from France, apparently a French Soldier wounded at the Battle of the Boyne in 1689 was nursed locally and stayed and name here is associated with Meath, beside Louth. The book of Irish surnames ddoes not support this but is only found in this area.
I will ask if I meet someone from Ardee if they are aware of it, there has been a lot of development around Ardee in recent time. As you are no doubt aware it does not turn up on Google maps.
Good Luck,
Pat

Thank you very much for your reply, Pat. The Armagh bit had me confused. I will have a look at the links you have sent and see if I can find anything more tomorrow.
Thanks again for taking the time to reply

Pat,
I forgot to mention, on the original post, that on one of the census records it states he was born in Tullykeel.chatty133uk

Hello Veronica, thanks for getting back, does not always occur, I found Tullakeel rather than Tullykeel on this site, it is norteast of Ardee, on the Meath border near Cavan and Monaghan. You will find it her with a map. https://www.townlands.ie/ Click on Louth and scroll down to townlands and click on Tullakeel.
Now if you go into this site and put in Tullakell and Select Louth in the Places Tab as copied you will findTullakeel, click on Occupants and read through the list, the last one is a Patrick Crinnion I think or similar. Clickon tab to open up and it has him renting from someone, map plot reference is 19, close the tab and open one of the map tab, play around with it until you find Plot 19 there is a 19 D also but not cclose, it has a post office shown on the map. I the top right there is a bar and pull it to the left to to get a modern view.
Circa 1815 to the east of Ardee there was a dreadful event, for which a lot of people were hanged etc. It is known as The Wild Goose Lodge Murders and there is a book and a few years ago Netflix made a movie in the locality on it, same name if you want to see the area even if about 20 miles away.
On a more fun note, look at all the other names in the town land and if you ever do or already have you might find those names appearing in your DNA matches, it has happened me and it gives me a smile at least.
Regards

Oh Pat, that's a lot of steps to do on that site. My memory isn't that good. I will have to write it all down then do it step by step. I'll get back to you when I've accomplished it. If. Lol if I'm not back in a few days, come looking for me lol
