I tried rootsireland.ie/ and got numerous baptisms for Mary Moynihan (+ surname variants) but none from Inchigeela.

Have you tried the RC registers which are free online at the Irish National Library? registers.nli.ie/ They have microfilm of Inchigeela baptisms 1843 to 80.

www.irishgenealogy.ie/ is also good for Cork records (church records option)

The Irish phone book 118.ie/ People Search has 40 Moynihans & 1 Moynahan in Cork. I didn't see Inchigeela mentioned. Some or more may be related so if none respond on site you might want to try a mail out (we have had success with this before). Plenty of time till September (nice time to visit).

I have been asked by Jane Halloran Ryan of IrelandXO to try to help you with your query and am happy to do so if possible.

In any of the information you have, is there any mention aof any other location other than Inchigeelagh? Inchigeelagh is within the Parish of Iveleary and is only a small part of the Parish. I have found in the course of other research over the years that the name Moynihane also hac]s another spelling other thgan the two uou mentioned. It seems to me that the name Minihane is the one used most frequently in the older records and that the other two were used less frequently but some parishes used all three spellings in the same family.I have also seen several cases where people named Minihane in local records, changed their name to Moynihane in the USA.  I will look up the possibilities in the next day or two.

It would be a great help if you could find any other location mentioned in order to pin down the exact area within the Parish to explore further. In the meantime, I will have a look at the Parish generally under all the name spellings and get back to you if I find anything.

Hi again Dan,

I may have some good news for you.

I searched Iveleary Parish records for Moynahan and all the other variations and found a Mary Moynahan who was baptised on 19th October 1852. She was the daughter of Denis Moynahan & Mary Leary of Inchanussig. The Sponsors at the baptism were Daniel Riordan & Mary Creedon. I would be fairly sure that this is the correct Mary as this is a relatively small Parish with excellent records and she is the only Mary Moynahan to match the dates within small error margins. I searched from 1800 to 1870. There is a possibility that there are siblings but I have not got that far yet in research as I wanted to gert back to you with the news above.

Since I posted the first message I believe I have found some more information. Mary's records here in the US use the spelling of Moynahan or Moynihan her husband was Daniel Hurley who came to the US from Ireland I believe in 1872. He could have been born 1849 or 1854. Records show these possibilities. Getting back to Mary I believe her mother's maiden name is Ellen Calahan. Not sure of that spelling. That is the name on the Massachusetts record of her death. Her father's first name could have been Daniel. Not really sure of that. The Inchigeelagh document I saw is not 100 % convincing so what you might have found could help. I will certainly check this out tomorrow and get back to you. Thank you sincerely for your help as I am at a loss as where to go with what little I do know at this time.  --- Dan
