My gg grandparents William Murphy and Margaret Connors were both born @ 1810. Family lore says family originally came from Ballycotton Co Cork. The emigrated to Newfoundland. I have birth records for first child Cornelius Murphy born 1935 in Carbonear Newfoundland. I have a marriage record for William and Margaret RC church 1937 in Carbonear, but I have also found an Irish record of marriage St Finbar Cork diocese of Cork & Ross Jun 1821. Wondering if this Cork marriage could be them, and if so why would they marry again in NL? Any info about William Murphy and Margaret Connors wouls be greatly appreciated!

I searched on the free site www.irishgenealogy.ie which has the records for the parishes in the Diocese of Cork and Ross including St. Finbarrs and I don't see an 1821 marriage for a William Murphy and Margaret Connors. There is a June 1821 marriage for a William Murphy and Margaret Cremen at St. Finbarrs.
One other question. You have Patrick baptized in 1835 but the marriage in 1837?
Ballycotton is 25 miles east of Cork city.

Hi Roger, Thanks so very much for reaching out to me. I think we are both looking at the same church entry. Margaret's surname is hard to read, how did you come up with Cremen? Is there any chance it could be Connors? I am also mystified by their son Cornelius b. 1935, and a big gap in other births as well as marriage date in NL. I will try to attach the transcription of record from NL churches. I would SO love to figure out where my Murphy ancestors were from in Ireland. If they did come from Ballycotton... what parish would be most likely? All help is much appreciataed! Many thanks...chris

The transcribers who captured the baptismal and marriage data for parishes in the Diocese of Cork and Ross came up with Cremen. Looks like Cremen or Crimen to me when I review the record you attached. My wife's maiden name is Cremen and her family were from Cork city (emigrated to the States in 1850) and St. Finbarr's. We visited the church about four years ago.
The RC parish is likely Lady's Bridge/Ballymacoda.
