Daniel's obituaryDaniel Gorman is my 3X great uncle, and I believe he went from Goresbridge, Kilkenny to Liverpool, UK about 1830ish. I am keen to know if there is any trace of Daniel or his family in or near Goresbridge between 1800 and 1840. Daniel's obituary reprinted from the Catholic Advocate of 8 April 1854, says ---

Carlow Post 15 April 1854 DEATH OF MR DANIEL GORMAN OF LIVERPOOL There died last week in this town no ordinary man --- Mr Daniel Gorman, at the age of 40 years. Mr Gorman was a native of Kilkenny, and resided in this town for many years. Possessed of genius that would have adorned any position in society, he was modest and retiring beyond all description, and although his society was courted by men of learning, his native modesty and downright bashfulness were so remarkable, that he refused to join those circles where he would have shown as a luminary. He was a poet of no mean order, and some of the very best lyrics of the present day are his compositions. The brilliancy of his wit was hardly ever equalled, and some of his more elaborate poetical works may stand beside any in the language. He wrote anonymously, and, therefore, he is not so well known by name in public as his merits desire; yet some of his pieces, both prose and verse, in our language, that adorn our present day literature, are from his pen. A more single hearted man never lived, and were it not for his extraordinary modesty, which no solicitation on the part of his friends could induce him to overcome, he would have held a high public rank amongst the genius of the present day. However, when his religion was assailed (and then only) would he pour out his soul in defence of sacred truth. It was the love and practice of that religion which produced his modesty. Those who knew him best fully appreciated his character, and now deplore his loss. He is gone to reap the reward of a well spent life. --- May he rest in peace. Amen

Liverpool Mail 1 April 1854 Died On the 28th ultimo [28th March], at his residence, Ranelagh-street, Mr Daniel Gorman.

He was born circa 1809 according to English census and death records, so was about 45 years old at his death.

He had a sister named Bridget 1811 - 1890 who married James Flynn of Ballyanne Co Wexford, in Liverpool, and a brother, James Gorman 1804 - 1874, who married Ellen Cahill of Low Grange in 1836 before also migrating to Liverpool. There are probably other siblings who stayed in the Goresbridge/Grangesilvia area.

I would dearly love to know more about these ancestors of mine, since descendants are now scattered across the world. Are there any descendants still in Ireland?
