  • Hi Hughie, we are not in a great position to do this as we mainly access genealogy stuff, I checked Griffiths Valuation and the only McCooey that comes up is a Patrick McCooey who has 3 plots in Maghereagh, Barronstown, landlord Richard McCann.

There is a site about Louth here, if it does not open Google Louth Genealogical Sources. http://jbhall.clahs.ie/index.html There are McCooey's mentioned but no pub. I would recommend trying hte Louth Archives in Dundalk, https://www.louthcoco.ie/en/services/archives/ and local history https://www.louthcoco.ie/en/services/library/reference-local-history-library/

The other way is to use the land valuation records to see who owned it or try various newspaper archives, Dundalk Democrat and Dundalk Argus, the subscription sites British Newspaper Archive or the Irish Newspaper Archive, pre 1922 the British one is reputed to be better.

The pub has a Facebook page if anyone on it has information or Louth Genealogy FB page may find a local with knowledge.

The  Irish Census of 1901 and 1911 may show who lived there then. http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/search/ There are only about 12 people, those in Barronstown are farmers and in Dundalk are shop keepers, there are no McCooey in Louth village at the time either. There are about 140 of the name in the entire country but the appear to have got the pub post 1911.

I hope that is of some assistance.
