My gg grandmother was Alice o’sullivan from Athea. Trying to determine who her parents were and if her father was a brother of Thomas o’sullivan. Rootsireland has 2 Timothy o’sullivans.
Around 1911 my grandmother Alice judge Mcauliffe received info from her cousin, Cornelius o’sullivan Jr listing aunts uncles, cousins names/addresses. James and Martin o’sullivan, 2 uncles, were in New South Wales Australia. A great grand uncle, Martin dalton and an aunt Kate (mrs joe dalton) were in Athea. Kate’s daughter, mrs Cornelius shine, was in Brooklyn New York. Cousins Michael t o’sullivan, James d o’sullivan and mrs Johanna normile were in Kansas City Missouri.
Alice o’sullivan married patrick o’brien in New Orleans la in 1853; Alice died in New Orleans in 1880 at age 49. She had been in n.o. for 30 years.
Her obit showed she was from county Limerick. I have dna matches current o’sullivans as distant cousins. Can anyone assist in getting my gg grandmother’s parents names?

Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!
You mention accessing Roots Ireland. Did you see the record below? The Athea RC baptismal records start in April 1830. Roots Ireland showed the following younger siblings to this Alice: Denis 1835 Johanna 1835 Patrick 1839

Sorry for such a tardy response. I did find that baptismal cert on rootsireland and that is the family I concentrate on in researching the O'Sullivan/Sullivans and Daltons of Athea. However, I have not located a family further back with sons named Thomas and Timothy so I can determine the degree of cousin relationship to my current dna O'Sullivan matches. I have 7 Woulfe dna matches on ancestry.com and one Woulfe match on 23andme. It's interesting that Athea bap. cert records also have some McAuliffes. I plan on attending the 2020 McAuliffe Clan Gathering in July 2020 in Newmarket Co. Cork, and I will be going to Athea Limerick at that time because Athea is not too far from Newmarket.
Does Athea have hotels or short term rentals available? I know Newmarket has no hotels.

I live in the States so I'm not the best one to answer your West Limerick hotel questions. I will let our HQ know and maybe they can assist with someone local.

Dear Mary:
I note your query about hotels near Athea. As Listowel is not too far away, it may be worth considering a hotel there.
The Listowel Arms Hotel is right in Listowel and is very nice.
There are B & Bs available in the Athea area. You can access more information about them here: https://www.ireland-bnb.com/limerick-bed-breakfasts-athea.html
You may also find AirBnB information here: https://www.airbnb.ie/s/Athea
Abbeyfeale in Limerick is another option. They are about 12 minutes away from Athea.
Let me know if I can be of further assistance.
All the best,
Jane

Hello Jane,
I have rented Glenview Lodge in Limerick for a week for the McAuliffe Clan Gathering in July 2020. Is there a way I might be able to contact people in Athea with surnames I have listed to meet them in Athea in July? I sent an email a while back to the Athea newsletter with surname info but I did not get a reply. Maybe the newsletter staff does not check emails as there are probably not many received. I have now linked Timothy and Thomas O'Sullivan/Sullivan as brothers through ancestry.com family trees and dna matches. In the USA the families were mostly in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania and Kansas City MIssouri. My great great grandmother, Alice O'Sullivan, has been the only one in New Orleans that I can find. I might even have McAuliffe cousins in Athea but my known McAuliffe ancestors were from Cork (specific town unknown.)

I have realtives from Athea, Co Limerick also. McElligotts, Daltons, Woulfe, White. I stayed at the small town of Glin - at a wonderful B&B called O'Driscoll's Bed & Breakfast. We found that it's a great base location. Easy to get to from the Shannon Airport - and then very close to Athea and it's cemeteries. Estelle O'Driscoll runs the B&B. It's very clean and the breakfasts are wonderful. There are a few restaurants in town - which is all located on the main street.

Hello M Brennan,
In my tree I have Patrick O'Sullivan (married to Joan Dalton) as my 3rd great granduncle; he was a brother of my great great great grandfather, Timothy O'Sullivan. Timothy was married to Nora Mulvihill and their daughter, Alice O'Sullivan, was my great great grandmother. Alice married Patrick O'Brien in New Orleans LA in 1853.
The 2020 McAuliffe Clan Gathering was canceled due to covid and it has been canceled again for 2021. I have not been back to Ireland for some time. I just got my second covid vaccine shot so I will be ready whenever Ireland opens up again.
Thanks for the info.
